Even though the last thing we needed were more pillows (we have a ton of them that we like to migrate from room to room) we just couldn’t pass up these fun yellow beauties from Target. So for 24 bucks a pop we took two of them home:
Sure we’ve found cheaper pillows (like this $2.50 guy from Bed Bath & Beyond) but we can’t deny how much color and fun they bring to our living room, especially since they complement the patterned yellow rug and even seem to work with the fun geometric pillow on the slipper chair nearby. Lately we’ve really been loving a few pops of bright hue in a room to wake things up for summer.
So if you want to make these babies yours, check them out right here. Oh and be sure to click the alternate photo to see the back (we love that pattern too).
They’re just so ruffled and fun that we couldn’t leave without tossing them in our cart! What have you guys snatched up as of late? Any favorite finds from Target, HomeGoods, West Elm, or beyond? What about eBay and Craigslist? Do tell.
Note: Target didn’t pay or perk us for this post or gift us the pillows- we just fell in love, bought ’em, and wanted to share the goods.

I have down pillows similar to these (different color) that I bought at Target. They were on clearance for $6.74 which I couldn’t pass up. And there are many tutorials out there for rosettes – super easy to make.
Jessie (Bites and Pieces) says
I am in love with those pillows. Every time I see them at Target I have to tell myself to walk away since I don’t really need them right now. I love the ruffled flowers, so pretty!

I’ve been going through a “yellow phase”, too!
Recently, I found two fantastic yellow ceramic lamps at TJMaxx the first day they opened, here, and a name brand yellow toile quilt set on Ebay from my favorite linen re-seller……CHEAP!! I also got a pre-monogrammed PB white w/yellow embroidery hotel-style duvet and two matching pre-monogrammed shams at a STEEP discount from an Ebay seller (incorrect monograms, but no prob…. I removed them, and plan to have them re-monogrammed with a double happiness Kanji symbol when I get some extra bucks). All of it cost less than $200 for my room mini-makeover! I am loving the new look in our spare bedroom (which also doubles as my dressing room). If I didn’t have carpeting, I’d get a yellow area rug, too (I am one of those that never liked the look of an area rug on top of carpeting; besides which, it ruins the carpeting).

We just got done doing our bathroom (yesterday!) We got a large mirror for $40.00, our shower cloth shower curtain for $13.00, and two chenille throw rugs one large one small for under $30.00. Plus baskets on clearance at Michaels. If you want me to send photos of the bathroom let me know. I put in the same sink as you guys did.

I think Alondra meant switch out the Rowe and PB sofas, not replace the PB one. I’m curious to know if you thought of this as well. The PB one doesn’t look frumpy in the pictures and if the Rowe is more comfortable…
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Courtney,
Well since we use the frumpy one more (with a baby and a dog) that’s actually a good thing! It’s not that it’s uncomfortable, it’s just that it’s a bit less aesthetically pleasing to us. Both are comfy enough to sit on for hours on end (we believe in testing that out before purchase)- the PB one just got a bit mashed and saggy and stretched out and less crisp. But we’d still rather that one get the wear and tear and then upgrade to something nicer when our wee one(s) are grown a bit more instead of switching the sofas and potentially ruining our most favorite one with heavy use (since we entertain in the living room we like that one to stay neater if possible). Hope it helps!

It must just be a great time for great deals on pillows! I had just lamented to a friend about needing sofa pillows w/o spending a fortune & later that same day I found a vibrantly colored pillow that matched my (very safe & kinda dull) living room…for $4 at a consignment shop! Best of all, it had down feathers for stuffing (that’s worth the $4 all by itself).
Three days later I went to Steinmart & found the same pillow (minus the down stuffing) for $17!

I love those pillows! They are so cute and pretty. I wish we had a Target here!

I discovered a way to get some sweet deals at bed bath and beyond. The 20% off coupons that they send out every week don’t expire! And they take multiple coupons per order. So I save all the ones I get in the mail for a while. I recently went there and got to use about 10 20% off coupons for each item I bought! So start saving your BB&B coupons!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yeah we love that! They also honor those coupons at Buy Buy Baby (they’re owned by the same company) so anyone who is expecting (or buying a gift for a friend or family member there) can save loot as well!

We just updated our bedding and bought some new pillows for it. I actually saw the yellow ones you picked up and almost got them myself, but ended up choosing this yellow and gray one instead:

I’ve been looking at your wall colors blogs, b/c I’m trying to choose one fell-swoop starting color for my new house. I thought D-E “floating feather” was the love of my life, and it turned on me. Fickle Floating Feather.
All the beiges I pick seem to turn up peachy, or yellow, or washed out (not that there’s anything wrong with those colors, just not on my particular walls). I have a beautiful khaki glass tile, gorgeous granite, amazing porcelain… Now all I want is a D-E clean, rich, not-too-light, not-too-dark, neutral beige. Is that too much to ask???? UG. Sorry. My head hurts from looking at color wheels. ;-b

Hey Suzanne,
Our best advice would just be to bring home a ton of swatches and see what reads best in your space (since the lighting in our house will change anything that we suggest). Good luck!

I’ve been admiring those pillows for a long time, but as a college student I don’t usually buy throw pillows because even $20 is too much money for me to be spending on things like that. I’ve been meaning to make a knock off version, though, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. It wouldn’t be too hard.
Rachel says
Love the pillow. We just got a bunch for our newly remodeled basement for around $10 each (it was recently when Target had all their throw pillows 10% off). We’re also enjoying our $2k microfiber sectional that we scored from for $436, thanks to JC Penney furniture outlet, an easily mended small tear in one piece, and an additional 10% off coupon. Oh, and another Target find – the display model of a $250 Smith & Hawken fountain for $50. It was missing the pump, so I got an extra 25% off and restored it to working order with a $20 Home Depot one. Can you tell I love a deal?
Heather says
I have been on a spending freeze to buy anything home related since we just moved in a bew house and purchased major ticket items but I LOVE PILLOWS! They are my weakness! We bought a huge sectional for our family room and it has 10 pillows on it alone, SO FUN! I still have a lot more pillows to buy- mainly decorative types for our master and the guest bedroom but I have to wait a bit :)

Well if you asked this question, but didn’t show these pillows I would have said this exact pillow! I literally just bought this pillow for my bed on Monday! As for a bargain, I wrote on my blog just today about a fabulous discount I received when a gorgeous sunburst mirror arrived damaged from an online shop. The customer service was outstanding and thanks to the generous credit, I got the mirror at half the original price and thanks to a little diy, you can’t even tell it was ever broken. Result!

Very cute pillows. I love throw pillows and have about 3 bags full that I switch around room to room and season to season. A great buy that I’ve recently found on craigslist is the Ikea Bjursta table thats in the stor for $399. I got it for $150 in perfect condition! I also have some cute ruffled pillows from HomeGoods that I can’t wait to bring out for fall. I’ve seen lots of cute things at homegoods that I’m going to show on my blog http://www.owningsingle.com

Cute pillows! I noticed in the pics that you have your front door open….do you have a storm door, or do you just leave the door open sometimes? Just wondering :-)
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Lauren,
We used to have a ripped and rusty old screen door but we removed it a while back for a cleaner and simpler look. We also love that we don’t have to juggle two doors to let people in and sign for packages, but it’s totally a personal preference thing!

Speaking of brightening things up during the summer… I’ve been thinking about being more purposeful in my decorating (and getting rid of what I don’t need) and was wondering what you two do for Christmas decorations… do you change everything? Add a hint of Christmas here and there? Or do you just leave well enough alone??
Thanks for any tips!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Erin,
Just click on our How To tab up under our blog header and scroll down to the holiday section to see tons of posts about how we seasonally decorate our house. We store obviously Christmas-themed stuff in the basement when it’s not in use. But we also like to adapt things that we already have around the house (like candlesticks, hurricanes, faux sheepskin rugs, etc) to keep from accumulating too much stuff. Anything that can multitask is awesome!

I just got 3 awesome Pottery Barn pillows on clearance that work with my bedding and hopefully my khaki couch that is on order. I love the texture that they bring to the room. Check em out: http://bit.ly/cU031F. I also scored a discontinued pottery barn pillow cover off Ebay as an accent. See it here: http://bit.ly/a0kL3k. It’s a taupe color with embroidered flowers. I was instantly in love.

In regards to the earlier question- where did you guys get your slipvovers from? How did you find one to fit so perfectly and cover individual cushions rather than be one long cover?
Thanks!

Hey Bev,
They came with the purchase of our sofas (we haven’t found any that fit that well retroactively- other than having them made). Hope it helps!

Love those pillows! That yellow would go perfectly with my Longaberger butternut pottery. The latest deal we got from craigslist is a 7 ft high, 9 ft long desk/book case unit for only $150! It replaced 3 small pieces and is so much more streamlined. I’ve been enjoying decorating the shelves with baskets to hold office supplies, pottery & books from around the house. New hardware gave it an updated look. Now trying to decide whether to paint the back of the shelving a light color or maybe line it with a cute fabric? I just love it!
Karen J says
Love those pillows! And I loved your inspired switch from the old honeycomb rug to the PB yellow rug.
But … I’m surprised you would put the yellow pillows with the yellow rug!! Even though it’s just a “temporary” thing, it seems a little too matchy matchy for you. My weakness is doing the “matchy matchy” thing when I decorate, and I have learned a lot from your blog about avoiding it. Now I always hear Sherry’s voice in my head steering me AWAY from my match matchy choices.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Karen J,
We usually consider things that are similar in material AND tone to be a bit too matchy-matchy for our liking (ex: a medium wood coffee table that matches some medium wood end tables that match a medium wood tv table) – but we love pairing items like a patterned rug and a similarly toned (but differently patterned and textured) pillow. The ruffled pinwheels paired with the moorish tile rug somehow feel more layered and less downright matchy to us. Of course it’s all personal preference though. Just do what you love!

Jumping onto the couch comments (with Alondra and Courtney), I understand what you mean about saggy. I/we had a pillow back couch for 10 years, and I was SO tired of fluffing them, especially when we got a little puppy who loved to lie on the back (like the Burger-sized intent in the picture). So the main requirement for couch #2 was a non-pillow back one. We went with a Rowe (Berkeley) last year and I LOVE it. No more sagging! And for what it’s worth for Cecilia, we got a chocolate microfiber one and it cleans up super-duper great (we have a 3-year-old, a 3 month-old, and a dog, so we know!) We were told at the store that microfiber’s easy to clean and it doesn’t look “microfibery”, more like a velvet! Here’s a picture:

Hey guys! I love these pillows. I’ve seen this pillow show up on another blog I follow as well and was wondering where it was from. I might just have to make the purchase..
I’ve also started accumulating more throw pillows that I need, it’s kind of fun switching them out though! And helps change the look from season to season.
I have a question for you. How often do you guys find yourselves sitting down at your dining table for dinner? My boyfriend and I hardly even use our dining table, and I’m starting to wonder if we should make it more of a tradition – to enjoy dinner and talk, rather than eat dinner on the couch. We’re just both so busy that it seems like a chore to eat at teh dining table, and I’ve completely lost perspective one what other young couples are doing for dinner. I feel like we might be the ‘eat in front of the tv generation’ ya know!

i just bought this pillow!!! its in chocolate brown on chocolate brown pinwheels with the same pattern on the back in a nice caramel.
i saw it in target and just had to have it (even though i couldnt justify spending more money on more pillows!) but it didnt have a price. when i got to the checkout, it didnt even register in the system. after the cashier’s trip to customer service to snag the item number the computer could recognize (it was a last season pillow, the very last one they had, and no longer in the system), i got it for a sweet $6.50!
that was a long, boring story about my target pillow experience, but i just had to share my glee in sharing your good taste AND finding a better bargain than sherry, my gooddeal idol.

I loooove these Target pillows, and have been eyeing them for our new appartment when we move in. My question though, was actually about your rug. Where did you guys find it? Yellow is a new color I’ve been experimenting with, and I’m wanting to incorporate more of it into our new home. Where could I find an affordable similar rug?
Thanks so much,

Hey Melissa,
The rug is Pottery Barn’s Moorish rug and we got it about 2 years ago, so it’s probably not carried anymore. But you could try hunting one down on eBay!

Ok guys….I know you have bought furniture on Craigslist. I’ve never had a problem with it before but now that I got this lovely couch for free people have me freaking out about bed bugs and who knows what else. So you all do anything to sanitize beyond the normal clean vacuum, febreeze that I’ve already done?
Thanks and I LOVE your site.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Erika,
We inspect everything we get from thrift stores and craigslist for signs of bed bugs, which are actually easy to see. Just look around for dark stains on the creases of the furniture (which would definitely be present if bed bugs are). You can also leave the item in a “holding area” of sorts before bringing it inside (sometimes we air things out in the sunroom or garage so we can do another once-over in a few days before bringing it into our house). Good luck!
