Some of you have asked how Burger’s getting along in the new house. Short answer: great. Short answer with a fancy Mary-Poppins-ish twist: just splendidly.
It only took him a day or two to figure out where his food bowl now lives and which door to wait at when he needs to go out. Other than that, he seems to be having fun discovering (and re-discovering) his favorite spots to hang. Here are some shots from the last two months to document his love for the new casa.
This one was taken pretty much right after we moved in. He quickly identified this sun-warmed corner of the rug in the living room and loved to park his keister there every morning.
It was part of his very own GTL routine – growl, tan, lick myself. Yes, we watch Jersey Shore since it’s my wife’s home state.
Though that routine has been interrupted by the introduction of Karl the sectional (since he blocks the sunspot), Burger has discovered a few new sun-drenched locations lately- including the windowsill itself. He’s such a cat sometimes. Here he is snuggled up in Clara’s hospital blanket (we brought it home for him to get used to her scent and now it’s his official “blankie”).
Sometimes he’ll move his relaxing into one of our laps, which really is a win-win for everyone on a cold morning.
And occasionally he even helps supervise Clara during playtime. Although he tends to sleep on the job. Unless of course a noise is heard outside. Then all howl breaks loose. See what I did there? I replaced h-e-double-hockey-sticks with the word howl. Booyah.
But when he’s not campaigning for the laziest chihuahua in the world title, he does his fair share of “quality control” – which basically means he helps us test out new purchases. Like our duvet:
And our new sectional pillows (even before the sectional was here, we tossed them on the sleeper sofa in the office and Burger took them for a test ride):
He also manages to squeeze in some playtime too, usually with his favorite toy: Divalectible. It was a gift (for Clara, actually) that Burger took an enthusiastic liking to. Don’t judge us for the name of this tiny stuffed chihuahua with a pink feather boa on it (Divalectible is actually its given “Beanie Baby name” and somehow it stuck). But feel free to judge Sherry for the weird noise that she makes during this video. I call it her “excited dolphin call.” She does it to get the dog to come a runnin’. Just not usually in public. Or on youtube.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that Burger continues to spend most of his days under the covers. So even though there’s a whole new house for him to explore, we’ve definitely got the same ol’ Burger on our hands.
So that’s what our oldest kiddo has been up to when he’s not “supervising” as we paint or demo something around the house. Life’s good when you’re an eight pound chihuahua.
Psst- If all goes well we might just have another post today or tomorrow for ya. Let’s just say that we’ve finally started gaining guest bedroom momentum (with just 6 days until the inlaws arrive – yikes) so we’re most likely working away as you read this. And Burger’s probably supervising.

Burger’s so fun!! I love when you post about his little antics. He’s a cutie.
Sherry, it’s so funny that you do that noise! I used to do a “guinea pig” type noise to get my dog all wound up when my hubby and I first got married. He teased me about it once and I haven’t done it since! lol I don’t even think I can do it anymore b/c I start laughing remembering the situation! :o)
Ah, well…we all have our quirks and oddities. ;o)

Oh no I’m worried about Karl! As a fair skinned redhead I’m tuned in to all things UV, so when you mention that he sits in the sun spot I gasped!
Your large dark and handsome sofa could soon be a muted middle aged fluff ball before you know it. If I’m not mistaken the fabric is primarily cotton (notoriously fast fading) but never fear there are a couple things you can do:
1. Double check the UV treatment on you windows and doors to make sure you are not risking over exposure. If it’s low or non existent there are films you can buy and to go help with UV protection.
2. There are great (maybe not organic) spray fabric protectors that act almost like a sun block for rugs, curtains, and Karl’s.
3. Cross your fingers and start dreaming up reupholsty options. I’m sure it will make several great posts!
I feel horrible breaking a bad news about one of your newest members of your household… please forgive!

No worries! We figure Karl may fade over time, but we’ll be adding blinds and curtains to block some sun and also can always purchase new slipcovers for him down the line for just a few hundred bucks. So for some reason we’re not stressing about it. Which is odd because we’re usually big worriers. Haha. We’re trying to remember that our house has a pup and a baby in it, so everything that we get will probably have to put up with some wear and tear. I guess we’re just embracing that fact. Thanks for all the suggestions!

My husband and I are almost at the end of the long journey to home ownership. We’ve been building though. We were talking this week about how we should get our chocolate lab up there soon to scope the whole place out.
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. And, my friends and I also did the trip to the Jersey shore the weekend after Senior Prom in 2002. However, we’re all mostly Irish so there was the crazy drinkking, but no tans, haha!

So cute! Burger reminds me of my scrawny mini doxie. She loved to lay in sun spots and would shake her toy a bit after fetching just like Burger. Clara is so cute how she is just grinning at him the whole time. :)

I love your family! Burger is a ham (ok, that didn’t sound right) and Clara is adorable, to say the very least! I loved that video :) Thanks for brightening my Saturday!

You guys make me want to buy a chihuahua. Also, you have to tell me where your desktop is from it’s awesome!

That desktop is from Simple Desktops (just google it to find the site, might be simpledesktops.com?). Hope it helps!

I love Burger! He has so much personality. I think every Chihuahua I’ve met has been a trembling, terrified mental case. It’s good to know they aren’t all like that! :)

Hey guys ! I just LOOOOVE those cute posts about Clara or Burger ! They are such a source of joy in a day ! I remember that video from YouTube (Guilty ! I’m an addict of your family !) and I can watch the one of Burger when he was a baby several times in a week, just to get a boost of happiness… haha Since I’ve lost my dog last month (she was 17, so we had her around for a while !) Burger is my new virtual pet ! Thanks for sharing those photos of Burger in the sunshine, they remind me of my little angel, who was acting just the same – as a cat !

Aw so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. But so happy that Burger and Clara videos bring you joy!

My daughter thinks it’s hilarious to have our dogs running around with a toy or chasing each other. We just got a chihuahua and they really enjoy each other… we were nervous at first but now the chi wants to sit on our daughter’s lap (and there’s not much room since she’s not even 2!).
bri says
Glad to see he is settling in – our chi handled our last move pretty well, but it is interesting to watch her and the cat figure out where the ‘sun spots’ are during those first few days. Neither one can bear the thought of the other getting a primo spot first!
Sandra says
OMG – that video is so precious! And Sherry, don’t feel bad about making those crazy noises. You should hear the things that come out of my mouth when playing with my dog – I have all different types of voices, noises, made up words, and oh the nicknames….Our poor pup probably doesn’t even know what his real name is since I call him so many things. LOL!

I love this posting! They are both SOOOOO adorable! And Burger is so full of energy :-)

I love love love that you said, “Don’t hit your sister” to Burger, so hilarious and fun!

Love this post about your dog! I especially like the “growl, tan, lick myself” routine and the video of Clara watching Burger play fetch. That was great. A nice pick-me-up for the mid-day. Very nice blog, by the way. I will check back in on you…
