Last October we had fun teaming up with Joss & Main to curate a sale event over on their site (which entailed picking favorites from hundreds of items in their database to make a “Young House Love collection”), so when they invited us back for a spring collection – and agreed to an extra special perk for you guys this time around (more on that in a sec) – we were psyched. Side note: I used to think that word was spelled “siked” until freshman year when my BFF laughed ’til she cried and finally clued me in.
It’s really funny to hear the title of “curator” used to describe us (except maybe Curator Of Outfits With Dog Hair And Cream Cheese Smears), but seriously, getting the opportunity to reopen a little virtual decor store of sorts over there for the next 60 hours is awesome. And although we didn’t set the prices ourselves, we did our best to find a variety of things in a nice wide price range (from under $25 accessories to $250+ furnishings). This collection even includes some things we’ve bought – from our happy yellow kitchen radio to the gray nailhead chair in our living room. So here’s a sampling of our collection that’s over on Joss & Main through Saturday morning (there’s a lot more over there). If you’re not already a member, just click here for an instant invite (so you don’t get wait-listed). Then you can find your way to the sale by clicking here:
And because we like to be 100% transparent with you guys, it’s Joss & Main’s protocol to offer a small commission to the folks who curate sales on their site, so it’s just like any other side gig that helps us pay the bills (like our magazine column, our book, and our paint collection – you can read more general blog income info here). But here’s the twist. Joss & Main also offers small referral fees in the form of store credit (which is actually available to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase) but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we asked if we could save all those credits up in a separate “gift account” and dish ’em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader next week. And they said yes. Cue the cartwheels!
So stay tuned for that next Monday. In the meantime, our collection will be available for the next three days (until Saturday morning). We had so much fun putting this together, and we hope it inspires you in some way – even if it’s just to spray paint something from the thrift store or otherwise do your own DIY spin on something that grabs ya. And speaking of things that grab you, what accessories have you been into lately? I’ve found myself inexplicably drawn to lamps (as in we don’t have enough surfaces in our house for all the lamps I want to adopt) and serving dishes (perhaps due to the new open shelves in the kitchen?). Meanwhile John has a newfound love of accordion folders and house plants. Go figure.
Emily says
Totally random, unrelated question: Do you find it as strange as I do when people pin really off beat photos from your posts? For example, today I saw your kitchen pinned (with some comment about open shelving), but it was the shot with your birthday ribbons hanging. Never mind the ribbons… focus on the shelves! So strange!

Haha- that IS funny! I hadn’t seen that!

um, guys. . .have you noticed the similarity between the tree design on those colorful plates and the tree design on your bathroom tile?? ; ) That had me laughing just a little bit. You guys are awesome and we LOVE checking in each day.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha- that’s so funny! Maybe we just need to use a sharpie and go over our trees in bright happy colors. Haha. I actually think we’d like our tree tiles if there were four or five of them. But fifty of the exact same ones repeating around the room feels too much like one of those old wallpaper borders to us I think!

I know you got the white mirror in the living from Joss & Main, but I was wondering if you remember the name? I’ve been searching high and low for a mirror similar with no luck!!
YoungHouseLove says
So sorry, we don’t! And we tried to get it into our sale but it wasn’t available right now. Maybe if we do another sale we’ll be able to hunt it down!

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. I was also looking at your mirror in the master bathroom. Someone on Lowe’s website said that when they painted it didn’t take well. Did you have any problems/challenges with that? I also love that mirror but would hate to spend so much money and ruin the mirror! Thank you again!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh no, we didn’t have any issues! I just used primer + paint (by Behr) so maybe that’s why it did well?

Great – I’ll be picking one up today!

I was so excited when I saw the email from Joss & Main last night. My husband and I have been looking for a small lamp to use with our piano and the brushed steel lamp was perfect! I can’t wait for it to arrive! Thanks!

Aw thanks Becky! Enjoy it!

sherry (or any one else reading)! i keep getting cold feet when it comes to making a commitment about curtains and decorative pillows for my relatively small living room area (we live in a condo, so room is tight). i love patterns (for example, the pillows you picked above i l.o.v.e.), but i keep getting worried that i am going to overwhelm the space with both patterned curtains and patterned pillows. is there such a thing as too much pattern? any advise/thoughts? its our first home, and we are both graduate students so even committing a hundred bucks to curtains and then more for pillows seem like a big investment, so i want to be sure. thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
I think a good thing to think about is the scale of the pattern. For example, if your curtains have a small scale pattern, some pillows on the sofa with a large scale pattern should layer in really nicely. Especially if the color in both things relates. If the colors don’t really tie into each other or they’re both the same scale pattern they could compete. Hope it helps!

I opened this post this morning and used the link to go to the Joss & Main website. There are several items that I am interested in purchasing. But they are already SOLD OUT!! :-(
Will the sold out items be available at some other time? I’m interested in the Beach Shell Ornament, Artichoke Candleholder & Vase, Cape Cod Doormat, Island Bamboo Bowl and the Miami Tea Towel.
Love reading your blog, although I’m a Thrift Store lover, not necessarily a DIYer. Guess I’m a Wannabe DIYer!!!
Thanks for the inspiration.

We hear they’re trying to add more stock to some items that have sold out but others truly are gone for now. But if we ever do another collection and they’re back in stock we can hopefully put them in again! You can also check wayfair.com in a few weeks to see if they come into stock there!

Farrrrrt, you guys! Everything I wanted/could afford is sold out. Wah. Why do you guys have to be so dang popular? heeheehee :) Oh well, next time I will try to get on it faster!
Sherry, I gotta tell you about my excitement over lamps lately. For about 6 months or so, I’ve been drooling over the Mercury Glass lamps at Pottery Barn (with the Burlap shades). They are a whopping $269 each! Yowza! I searched HomeGoods and various other places for look a likes that were in my budget. I kept coming up empty handed, so I ended up settling for some darling bird & branch lamps I got from Kirkland’s on sale for $39.99 each (including linen shade). I really did love them, but when I started pulling the rest of my ideas together for my room makeover they just didn’t fit. Then an angel came to me in a form of an email (my Mother sent me a link from Target)… they were Mercury Glass lamps for $46.99!!! Definitely not the shape I had in mind, but I had to go look at them in the store for myself. I didn’t get there til the next week, and it turns out they were Buy 1 get 1 Half off… and so were the burlap shades! I won’t go into the long drawn out story about having to go to several targets to geth them, but in the end I came out WAY on top and was WAY excited. The height of these lamps is way better for my bedside, perfectly priced, and I am just in love. Sorry Pottery Barn- I lurve ya and all- but Target just made my Spring! Now I feel like I can finally start working on the rest of the room.
That’s my story. The end. :)
YoungHouseLove says
That’s amazing! I love the lamp story. And the first word of your comment had me laughing out loud. I’m totally mature at my ripe old age of 30. Haha.

Love the new collection! Trying to figure out if I have enough pennies saved for the coffee table.
I’m currently crazy for Martha Stewart’s vertical file folders (which fit in magazine holders) and cleaning products (it’s the packaging). By the way the new Method coconut scented hand soap bottle reminds me of Sue the Napkin. I can only say that here…my best friend thought I was nuts when I told her. :)
I am always buying baskets – I almost bought a bike basket, but I don’t have a bike. That’s when I knew I needed to slow my roll.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, I love it! Both the baskets and the mention of Sue The Napkin!

Eek! I just bought one of the Dhurrie rugs that you had picked out. I really like it, but I find it so stressful to purchase things without possibility of return! Just needed to freak out with someone!

Love the collection but SO bummed – the yellow swirl pillow which I thought I ordered yesterday won’t be available until JULY. So I cancelled. Big bummer on Joss & Main – not you guys obviously, just thought folks should know. I am very disappointed.
YoungHouseLove says
Oh no – so sorry about that! I love that pillow. I wonder if it sold out initially, and to make it unsold out for others who wanted to purchase it, maybe they added more back-ordered stock (so folks who really wanted it could get it, they’d just have to wait for a future shipment). That’s all I can think of to explain that long delay!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I recently tried to buy the green/ivory dhurrie that you included in the collection on another website but it had sold out, so I was ecstatic that it popped up in your curator’s collection. Of course, I fell in love with it from looking at your green dhurrie in the first place. We are moving into a new house in a few weeks and your blog is my main inspiration right now. I’m a little obsesssed. Thanks for everything!

Thanks for getting me into the site, it’s amazing! I know I can’t buy anything for a loooong time but I can’t help it’s just addictive to get lost looking t things :) If I could pick one thing out from your collection, I think my favorite is the yellow radio, so gorgeous :) Oh and the accesories I’ve been into lately I guess would be Moroccan beauties, late 1800s vintage item with a steampunk kick, and 1920s Hollywood glam, items.

Aw thanks Bianca!

Sorry, but I’m so excited and have to share this news with you. I had commented last week that I desperately coveted your ottoman/coffee table from joss and main. It went on sale again today!! I’m sorry for ripping off your style, but I’m so excited to have a beautiful new ottoman so that I can stuff it full of noisy baby toys and know that my baby boy won’t kill himself on the corners now. You have amazing taste–thanks for letting us share in it. (But, OUCH on the shipping charges!!)
YoungHouseLove says
Isn’t that funny?! I saw that too! So bummed it wasn’t available for our collection, but it must have come in right after it ended!

Hi,
This collection is lovely but unfortunately I missed the window. Do you recall the manufacture or design name of the turquoise banded dinnerware? They’re exactly what I’ve been looking for to replace out mismatched pieces.
Thanks!

I would try wayfair.com since they’re usually the supplier for jossandmain.com sales! Maybe try overstock too. Don’t know the name though, so sorry!

I always try to skim the comments to make sure you haven’t answered my question but I didn’t see it. Apologies if it’s there. I was hoping you could provide rug help. Looking to buy a large one and I never get how on joss and main some rugs are like $50 and some are $250. The descriptions don’t help me but I’m a total rug novice (having failed at an Overstock rug purchase I’m now a trigger-shy novice). Any tips on how to suss out quality or how they can possibly sell a rug for $50? Esp with J&M no return policy, it’s stopping me from buying :(
Also, I was really psyched to see you spell psyched right. Spelling nerd here.
YoungHouseLove says
Haha thanks Reena! As for their rugs, I look on overstock or way fair.com for write ups since they usually have the same things. Those reviews give me a clue about quality. Hope it helps!
