By now you guys have probably grown accustomed to our random tours through places like Target, Ikea, Crate & Barrel and Anthropologie with our camera in tow. But this time we traipsed through HomeGoods and couldn’t stop ourselves from snapping pictures of all the things that we loved (with fabulous prices to match). So without further ado, here’s what’s frying our bacon these days from the decor mecca that is HomeGoods…
This amazing white cut-out urn is nothing short of art when it’s placed in the center of a large dining table or displayed on a console table or buffet. And although we’ve seen them in a few places for upwards of $100-150, this baby (which is nearly 2′ tall by the way) will run you just $55.
Here’s another fun cut-out urn that came in a playful mustard color and was a bit smaller. This one’s just $25 and we think it would look equally chic on any number of tables, shelves or bookcases. We love the exotic Moroccan vibe and can even picture it in a posh bathroom full of sea sponges.
This $12 hot pink Buddha made us smile, and we can just see it lending a cool Domino-ish effect to any room when placed atop a large pile of hardcover books or displayed on a bookcase with some other eclectic accessories.
And although I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea (John even declared that these guys were “straight up ugly”) you know I was smitten with these gorgeous $39 oversized white lacquered greyhounds. I can’t help it- my white ceramic animal menagerie always has room for one more (or ten…).
But don’t get me wrong. Not all animal-related accents are created equal in my book. Some are just plain weird. Like this cat that is somehow holding a basket with a kitten in her mouth. But with so many treasures to be discovered you’re bound to have to dig through some questionable things too. And we’re always down for a laugh while we window shop so we welcome discoveries like this.
This large round mirror is a bit reminiscent of the one we painted for our nursery, but this one comes in crisp white and is a bit softer and less geometric when it comes to the frame. Oh and have we mentioned the $39 price tag? Not bad at all.
HomeGoods is also a great place to dig around for affordable art, and this giant ready-to-hang canvas is just $49.
We also loved this frame with a beachy coral vibe. It’ll only set you back $6.99 and we think it would look charming in nearly any environment, from a home office to a bedside table.
This romantic and ruffled pillow looked so high end in so many ways. From the raw silk embellishments to the so-hot-right-now greeny yellow tone, it had me drooling. And the price tag? Just $14 (it originally sold for upwards of $60). Score.
We actually have very similar chic little glasses with woven sleeves but ours were on clearance from Sur La Table. We haven’t seen anything that’s very cheap since, but these guys are just $2.99 a pop so they’re definitely a do-able way to add texture and interest to any table setting (and they even look charming as vases, votive holder, pen holders, or even cotton ball and q-tip containers in a beachy bathroom).
We thought these initial mugs were reminiscent of the ones sold at Anthropologie for $6 but these are just $3.99 a pop. They too would make such great pen holders on a desk and could even work as a monogrammed toothbrush holder of sorts in an elegant black and white bathroom.
And these Chantal tea kettles came in so many glossy and fun colors (with $24 price tags) that we could totally picture someone snatching one up to add a bit of zip to any kitchen (just leave it on the stove full time for a dash of color- and of course use it to whip up tea for company).
The towel selection was also pretty impressive this time around. Sometimes things like that are hit or miss but we were loving all the prints that resembled vintage hex-tile details from a bathroom. And the soft blue, white, tan and mocha color scheme was right up our alley.
But if there’s one thing HomeGoods has above all other stores, it’s their amazing (and affordably priced) lamp selection. There are always at least two (if not many more) that I’m dying to buy on the spot. If only our house had ten more rooms that needed table lamps! This cheerful yellow guy was huge and bulbous (in the photo you can’t really tell the scale, but it’s gorgeously large and in charge). And the $49 price tag beats the pants off any other colorful ceramic lamps and shades that you can find (which usually can run you around $130+ at lighting stores and even places like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel).
We also loved this curvy blue-based beauty. And the $39 price tag was the icing on the cake. Two of these babies on either side of a bed or couch could MAKE the room. And they’re hundreds of dollars less than picking up two almost anywhere else.
So that’s what tickled our fancy when we took a stroll through HomeGoods. What do you guys think? Any favorite items among the bunch? Are there any other cheap-o home accessories (from there or anywhere else) that have you drooling these days? What colors are doing it for you these days? And what accessories are you currently on the prowl for? Do tell. Oh and check out Bryn’s recent HomeGoods excursion (I’m obsessed with the green elephant at the end).

I was just there and saw a number of your finds — EXCEPT those fabulous greyhounds which I totally would have found a place for. I side with Sherry! I love ’em! But maybe it’s because we have two real life ones living here.
Anyway, check out the wire baskets I scored in the dog section (all I had to do was pry off the metal labels) for only TEN bucks (seventh photo down)…

Not bad, right?

Love the pink buddha head and the lamps, good price indeed!! Must hit home goods tonight!

I just went out to Homegoods at lunch today! How funny to come back and see your post. We have two close to me and while they often have the same items, the carry just enough different items that I tell myself I need to go to both of them! I was picking up some cushions for the porch furniture today; they have great prices!

Love Home Goods! Love.
Also, very funny that I have seen that mirror in my local Home Goods, but the one in my store is a bright lipstick pink. And the first thing I thought when I saw it was, “hey, that reminds me of the Young House Love mirror.” Too funny that you guys feature its twin here today. :)
Katy says
I have contemplated the pink budda head TWICE, but never actually pulled the trigger. Now that I know you love it, I must have it. Guess who is hitting up Home Goods after work? This guy! Hope not too many other YHL readers are going to do the same!
Katie says
I loved almost every single thing pictured in this post. So much that I went to the website to see where my nearest Home Goods stores was. Unfortanetly there are ZERO in Washington, but a couple hundred miles away down in Oregon there are 2, which is fabulous because NO SALES TAX! I see a road trip to Home Goods in Oregon in my future ;)

Hey Sherry, I put a note on my RVP’s desk, so we’ll see…I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a giveaway! Also, in regards to one of the comments about the pricetags…I TOTALLY agree that they’re annoying, but that’s what prevents a lot of theives from ticket switching! White vinegar is another good choice for removing those pesky stickers :)!!
YoungHouseLove says
Great tip on the white vinegar Debbie! And thanks so much for putting in a request for a YHL giveaway. We just know it would be a huge hit- as demonstrated by all the HomeGoods lovers who are popping in to comment!

LOVE Homegoods! It’s like a TJ Max full of just home stuff!

Sherry – I just picked up a huuuuuge cream-colored ceramic planter with a modern texture. “Stole” it from HomeGoods for $25! It now houses a proportionately huge palm tree and resides in our living room. Love it! I also found a pair of geometric print pillows to use in our sons’ bedroom that’s in the works. I plan to pair them with an IKEA duvet so as to avoid any matchy-matchiness. And where did I learn that?! From y’all.
Kate says
I like your entries where you actually show how you create or design something – not where you advertise a specific store.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Kate,
To each his own! We try to cover a variety of home-related topics here, so hopefully the other 40+ posts that we churn out each month will tickle your fancy. As you can see from the comments, some people list our Window Shopping excursions as their favorite feature here at YHL, so we’ll definitely be keeping them on the agenda along with lots of DIY projects, tutorials, Reader Redesigns, House Crashing adventures, and other features that we love to share. And just to be clear there’s not advertising going on in this write-up. As we mentioned at the end of the post, we weren’t paid or otherwise perk’d to shout out HomeGoods, we just like to share home decor and accessories that we love. Hope it helps!

I found your website by way of chezlarsson.com and I love it! So much inspiration in one place! I had to comment because my husband and I bought two of those aqua lamps at our Las Vegas HomeGoods 3 weeks ago for our living room. I love them!

Stop! I’ve been itching for a trip to my local HomeGoods (thank goodness we have one here), but it’s not really in my budget this month. URGH.
Great pics. I kinda like the dogs…not sure where I’d put one, though.

I absolutely LOVE your blog. And it now has a permanent place on my blog roll. My husband and I are building our first house, and will be moving in soon. We don’t have a HomeGoods store close to us, and I am drooling over the wonderful finds you have posted above! What other stores are located in the Midwest that might have the same type of items? We have stores like Garden Ridge, Hobby Lobby, BigLots and the big dogs too TJMaxx, Target, etc. But I wasn’t sure if there was something that was just a tad closer to HomeGoods quality products. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! (p.s. good luck with your new peanut!)
YoungHouseLove says
We actually were about to recommend Garden Ridge, BigLots, Target, and TJ Maxx (HomeGoods is owned by the same company) before you even recommended them. Those alone will definitely provide tons of killer deals! Happy hunting…

Home goods, love it but it is 2 hours away, it is a nice outing though. I would like for you to do a post on things that say “Grandma territory.” I wonder how much I would fall into it even though I’m not a grandma.

I have those towels!

We don’t have a Home Goods in our area but we do have Burke’s outlet. I saw the same white urn priced even less than what you guys saw! They also had a purple one that I wanted to get my sister. I think I would like Home Goods if I ever got to go in and browse!
Sara says
*Sigh* Thanks for rubbing it in..yet again..that our nearest HomeGoods is 2.5 hours away. Not I trip I want to try making with a 10 wk old. TJ Maxx just doesn’t cut it with their small section of home stuff. *tear-sniff-sniff-tear*

I have the yellow one and love it.

I just bought one of the chantal tea kettles in aqua! I got mine at TJ Maxx, but it’s all the same. I love it!

Thanks to the rep who cleared up the HomeGoods/TJMaxx confusion – I was about to ask the same thing. Sadly there is no HomeGoods in Seattle but there is a TJ Maxx up by Northgate Mall. It’s decent, but not QUITE as amazing as the HomeGoods pictures I’m seeing from around the country! The closest real-deal HG is in Portland, about a 2.5 hour drive :(
CJ says
HomeGoods is a great resource! Combing their clearance aisles for even cheaper items is one of my favorite hobbies!
Abby says
I love the idea of having a ceramic animal menagerie. I am not typically a collector but that is a great theme for little things around the house.
I had no idea Home Goods had such an extensive lamp collection. I will have to visit again and check them out!
(Your site is great by the way. I recently discovered your blog through makingitlovely.com.)

Homegoods seriously makes me swoon. I’m like a kid in a candy store there. Everything is beautiful and affordable…

Homegoods is my favorite! I love it for lamps, pillows, frames and especially their wonderful fabic covered zippered storage boxes. I have some that I’ve had for more than 17 years that hold my son’s baby/childhood treasures and they have held up wonderfully. The closest one is an hour from my house, but from there, I can be at five others within a half hour — I’ve been known to hit all six in a marathon day!
I collect monogram mugs, and these are some of my favorites. I also have every one of the Anthropologie monogram mugs and while they are reasonable at $6.00, I actually prefer the HG mugs and … they make wonderful gifts for teachers, hairdressers, etc.

The pink buddah followed me home from HomeGoods this weekend….she is currently kicking it out on our lanai…i love it!

Hey, YHL! I was just wondering about your window shopping excursions. Obviously, the laws can be different in different areas (and I’m in the UK, so the US may be totally different) but if ever I’m out camera-shopping, in a variety of stores except my favourite fabric store, I get told to put my camera away (counterfeiting counter-measure and all that). When you guys take the camera out for some blogging, do the stores specifically know about the camera, kindly ignore it or do you have to hide in amongst aisles and home-beautifiers to take your snaps?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Bunny,
Good question! In smaller mom & pop shops (or local favorites) we always get permission before we snap away, but in mainstream stores we just whip out the camera and start shooting (since there are tons of pics everywhere from google to flickr that are shot by regular people as they’re browsing at these stores). To date no one has ever asked us to put away the camera or stop taking photos- I guess they figure taking pictures of something is a sign that we like it (so they’re cool with that). Hope it helps!

Looks like a funs store! Similar to Home Sense in Canada, all sorts of random but great finds!
I really love the blue lamp at the end. We don’t really need any more lamps, but I would just love a pair of crisply coloured table lamps for our bedroom!
Aimee says
Okay….diaper question. I’m pregnant with my 2nd child and never used cloth diapers…the thought just grossed me out. The MonkeyGrass link got me wondering about them though…my only question is, do you rinse them before placing them in the washer? Or just throw the whole soiled thing (#2 and all!) into the washer?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Aimee,
We actually got a Bum Genius diaper sprayer which is made to hose diapers down in the toilet before each washing (you attach it to the back of the tank- John actually did it this weekend). Apparently people rave about how great it is for eliminating the smell and keeping stains away. We’ll do whatever it takes to keep our cute little diapers in tip-top shape for as long as possible so we’re excited to use it!
There are tons of cloth diaper tips and links in the comments from the post where we mentioned them from yesterday, so feel free to scroll back through those for more links and info!

I love Home Goods. It’s a dangerous store for me. Not too sure about that pillow though. Reminds me of the female form somehow…..and not in a good way. lol.

Very cool! I have the white urn on my buffet that I got for only $39 bucks(also seen at Als 5 and dime for $25). I also have a hot pink oriental dog that I love, all from HomeGoods!!

John and Sherry,
Enjoy these last several days with each other! Your life is about to change so profoundly but in the best possible way. I can’t believe my baby will be a teenager on July 1st…
Anyway, about your water breaking…most women don’t experience the movie version of their water breaking at all! I was pushing and ready to give birth when my doctor had to “break my water.” Because your mattress is so special (and expensive) it’s probably a good idea to cover it, but don’t get too hung up on your water breaking and causing some huge flood, because the chances are that’s not how it’s going to go!
Best of luck to both of you! xoxox

I have the Tiffany Blue teapot in the back left of that picture and I love it! It makes such a difference in my kitchen and looks great with all of my stainless steel appliances. (And it makes great tea… I really didn’t just buy it for the color, I promise!)
We don’t have a Home Goods around here. I found mine at TJ Maxx :)

My boyfriend and I are working on closing on a house in June. We got the decorating bug and stopped at a Home Goods store. Mark used to work at a Marshals so he knew all of the random home decor stuff they used to get in. It was my first visit.
I was amazed! We made a game out of it, I would pick something up and ask “How much would you buy this for?”. 8 times out of 10 he actually guessed over what the price actually was. We thought it would help us narrow down what pieces we would buy but we had to find a different way. My first piece that I picked up was a urn in the perfect shade of blue for our living/dinning space. I was guessing $30 minimum. It was only $15! We walked out of their with 5 pieces of good sized pottery for only $80.
My favorite of your pieces is the first white urn. The shapes that are cut into it are exactly the shapes we want to use in our dinning room to pull the pieces together. (We found a wall mirror at lowes that inspired us. http://www.lowes.com/pd_304390-13535-LMCLH22ES_7_?productId=3093977&Ntt=wood%20framed%20mirror&Ntk=i_products&Ns=p_product_price|1&pl=1¤tURL=/pl_$100%2Bor%2Bless_7__s?Ntk=i_products$Ntt=wood%20framed%20mirror$Ns=p_product_price|1)

I just wanted to write and blame you for the $40 I just spent at HomeGoods. Wasn’t even planning on going. You guys owe me! LOL!

Ahhhhh… I’m so glad Debbie cleared that up! I know my TJMaxx has a big home goods type section, but I didn’t realize that it was basically the same as Home Goods. Now I don’t feel so deprived. :)

I bought all those towels almost two months ago! The blue with white ones look similar to some ones I wanted to get at Pottery Barn. The multicolor ones are in my guest bathroom!

Thanks for the vicarious window shopping! No HomeGoods here in Canada but it’s always great to see what’s catching your eye. Imagine my surprise to see my very own towels pictured – the beige, brown and turquoise checkered ones. Love them for a color pop in the otherwise neutral bathroom!

Hey quick question relating back to your Target photo album post – are you referring to the magnetic page albums?
I’m going back and forth on whether to get the uniform easy slip-in albums or the old-school magnetic (peel the page back and stick in the picture) kind. I really appreciate all the info you gave on storing your photos (digital and film prints). Keep up the great work!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Jessica F,
We definitely prefer the albums with pocket sleeves for each photo (the ones we got hold three photos per side) over the magnetic peel and stick kind. They just feel cleaner and more secure. But of course that’s a personal preference thing. Hope it helps!

I loved pretty much all the same things you loved with one exception that made me laugh out loud. The ruffled/rouched cushion. I was immediately struck by its likeness to those weird bras that Madonna went through a phase of wearing at one point (no pun intended). Can you see it? or am I just being my usual off-centre-sense-of-humoured self?

I can’t believe the price on the Chantal tea kettles!
I got mine sometime in the 90’s for around $100.00.
I’m serious. That’s what they were priced back then.

OMG I DIE for Home Goods. Thankfully, the closest one to me is about 35 minutes away (without traffic) so I don’t go there often. But every so often, while running errands in Glendale I find myself spending hours pining over everything in Home Goods. It’s so cheap, and wonderful, and I need it all!!
Jocey says
You guys are so awesome! We bought a new townhome just a year ago. We actually found out we were expecting a little during our closing process! And well, we were not able to jump into decorating and all right away. So one year and one 5 month old baby later, we still have alot of decorating and cozy-fying to do- on a budget that is! You’ve given me so many ideas! Wish you the best with your little one! Enjoy every moment because it goes FAST!
