By now you guys have probably grown accustomed to our random tours through places like Target, Ikea, Crate & Barrel and Anthropologie with our camera in tow. But this time we traipsed through HomeGoods and couldn’t stop ourselves from snapping pictures of all the things that we loved (with fabulous prices to match). So without further ado, here’s what’s frying our bacon these days from the decor mecca that is HomeGoods…
This amazing white cut-out urn is nothing short of art when it’s placed in the center of a large dining table or displayed on a console table or buffet. And although we’ve seen them in a few places for upwards of $100-150, this baby (which is nearly 2′ tall by the way) will run you just $55.
Here’s another fun cut-out urn that came in a playful mustard color and was a bit smaller. This one’s just $25 and we think it would look equally chic on any number of tables, shelves or bookcases. We love the exotic Moroccan vibe and can even picture it in a posh bathroom full of sea sponges.
This $12 hot pink Buddha made us smile, and we can just see it lending a cool Domino-ish effect to any room when placed atop a large pile of hardcover books or displayed on a bookcase with some other eclectic accessories.
And although I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea (John even declared that these guys were “straight up ugly”) you know I was smitten with these gorgeous $39 oversized white lacquered greyhounds. I can’t help it- my white ceramic animal menagerie always has room for one more (or ten…).
But don’t get me wrong. Not all animal-related accents are created equal in my book. Some are just plain weird. Like this cat that is somehow holding a basket with a kitten in her mouth. But with so many treasures to be discovered you’re bound to have to dig through some questionable things too. And we’re always down for a laugh while we window shop so we welcome discoveries like this.
This large round mirror is a bit reminiscent of the one we painted for our nursery, but this one comes in crisp white and is a bit softer and less geometric when it comes to the frame. Oh and have we mentioned the $39 price tag? Not bad at all.
HomeGoods is also a great place to dig around for affordable art, and this giant ready-to-hang canvas is just $49.
We also loved this frame with a beachy coral vibe. It’ll only set you back $6.99 and we think it would look charming in nearly any environment, from a home office to a bedside table.
This romantic and ruffled pillow looked so high end in so many ways. From the raw silk embellishments to the so-hot-right-now greeny yellow tone, it had me drooling. And the price tag? Just $14 (it originally sold for upwards of $60). Score.
We actually have very similar chic little glasses with woven sleeves but ours were on clearance from Sur La Table. We haven’t seen anything that’s very cheap since, but these guys are just $2.99 a pop so they’re definitely a do-able way to add texture and interest to any table setting (and they even look charming as vases, votive holder, pen holders, or even cotton ball and q-tip containers in a beachy bathroom).
We thought these initial mugs were reminiscent of the ones sold at Anthropologie for $6 but these are just $3.99 a pop. They too would make such great pen holders on a desk and could even work as a monogrammed toothbrush holder of sorts in an elegant black and white bathroom.
And these Chantal tea kettles came in so many glossy and fun colors (with $24 price tags) that we could totally picture someone snatching one up to add a bit of zip to any kitchen (just leave it on the stove full time for a dash of color- and of course use it to whip up tea for company).
The towel selection was also pretty impressive this time around. Sometimes things like that are hit or miss but we were loving all the prints that resembled vintage hex-tile details from a bathroom. And the soft blue, white, tan and mocha color scheme was right up our alley.
But if there’s one thing HomeGoods has above all other stores, it’s their amazing (and affordably priced) lamp selection. There are always at least two (if not many more) that I’m dying to buy on the spot. If only our house had ten more rooms that needed table lamps! This cheerful yellow guy was huge and bulbous (in the photo you can’t really tell the scale, but it’s gorgeously large and in charge). And the $49 price tag beats the pants off any other colorful ceramic lamps and shades that you can find (which usually can run you around $130+ at lighting stores and even places like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel).
We also loved this curvy blue-based beauty. And the $39 price tag was the icing on the cake. Two of these babies on either side of a bed or couch could MAKE the room. And they’re hundreds of dollars less than picking up two almost anywhere else.
So that’s what tickled our fancy when we took a stroll through HomeGoods. What do you guys think? Any favorite items among the bunch? Are there any other cheap-o home accessories (from there or anywhere else) that have you drooling these days? What colors are doing it for you these days? And what accessories are you currently on the prowl for? Do tell. Oh and check out Bryn’s recent HomeGoods excursion (I’m obsessed with the green elephant at the end).

Looks like I’m going to have to take a trip to Home Goods, even though I don’t need any more stuff!!! I love those towels, especially the blue leafy ones. They would look amazing in my blue bathroom! And I like the little cups with woven sleeves as well. My bathroom has a bit of a beachy vibe, and I was totally thinking “bathroom” and then you said what I was thinking. I think that would really look fabulous to hold… something in my bathroom! I will find something to put in it! I also really love that mirror and the coral-esque frame. You guys are really great shoppers- and even better shoppers if you don’t take all that stuff with you!
Last time I was at Home Goods, I found some awesome candles for $1 each. Score! I bought all four! :-)

Love it all…well maybe not the cat. Question about the mirror. To change the color-can you just spray paint or do you need to prep something like that first somehow? Thanks. Oh, by the way-from someone who’s water broke-you may not want to be in the middle of target-at least try to be near the front-bathroom. It can be GROSS!! Luck and prayers (and a super fast labor and slippery delivery.)
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Libby,
Yup, we’ve had luck just taping off the mirror part in the center, using a high quality spray paint like the Rustoleum stuff with the trigger nozzle, and then using a straight razor to get any rogue paint off the mirror. A few thin and even coats of spray are much better than one thick and drippy application. Hope it helps!

Amazing, I am so jealous that we dont have stores like this in Australia. I would love it if our Target stocked the same as the US stores, Ho Hum. We are planning a US holiday in a year or 2 and have just told the hubby I plan to ship back a good few boxes of housewares! He better be prepared.
Good luck Sherry with the birth of your little one. Will be sending you good vibes from Sunny Oz.

I LOVE Homegoods!! I recently bought the initial mugs. I totally want one of those greyhound statues (even though they look emaciated) because I have a greyhound! Actually, I just bought another greyhound statue at Homegoods just a few weeks ago!

I totally bought those blue lamps last week in our HOmegoods, except I bought them in Yellow. I LOVE THEM! They look fantastic in our bedroom! PIcture of them on my blog today!

We don’t have Home Goods in Canada but have essentially the same type of store, Home Sense, and I LOVE it there! I can’t believe how inexpensive things are at those kinds of stores. Bought the most beautiful bath towels for $9 each a few months back!!

Love your post. I am a HUGE HomeGoods fan and sometimes have to ban myself from going in there!! Anyway, today I had to meander over to Burlington Coat Factory to return a baby gift I received a few months ago and happened to take a stroll through their home section. They had the same urns for $12 (small) and $29 (large) as well as buddha heads for $12, moroccan tables, ceramic stools, waverly lattice print galore, and tons more. You should really do a window shopping on that place. I haven’t been into a BCF in years. I may start going back more often!!!
YoungHouseLove says
We haven’t been there in a loooong time either. Thanks for the heads up Nikki! We’ll have to investigate…

PS. I just went on the Home Sense website, and TJX Companies aka TJ Maxx/Home Goods owns the stores in Canada so it’s all the same company! Strange!

That it explains it! Thanks so much for sharing Liz!

Hey guys,
Totally off the topic, but have you seen the front doors so often seen in the Libby-Cary St. area? Where the storm door has a frame of wood around the glass and it’s typically painted the same color as the door? Any idea where to get one?
I’m betting my husband that you’ll know…don’t let me down…
YoungHouseLove says
Eeks no idea. But Lowe’s and Home Depot sell storm doors and front doors so it stands to reason you could order matching ones there. Good luck!

i love homegoods too! but the one in Chapel Hill doesn’t have as cute merchandise as yours.. maybe I should drive up to Richmond and check it out!

I looooove Home Goods! We just relocated to West Chester {Philly suburbs} and there is a Home Good/Marshalls right down the street, and it’s right across the street from Target ~ home decor heaven!
My favorite color of the season is any shade of turquoise, particularly seafoam green. I’ve loved it for years, and just can’t get enough of it! However, I tend to be a scaredy-cat when it comes to decorating with color, so our house is composed primarily of whites and grays. Thrilling, huh? I’ve decided to incorporate some punchy pillows to boost the color in our living room. Feel free to stop by and give me your 2 cents on my Pillow Talk post!

I absolutely LOVE all the TJX stores! Up here in Canada HomeGoods = Homesense, TJMaxx/Marshalls = Winners. There are no less than 5 HomeSense locations, 6 Winners locations and 1 Stylesense (shoes & accessories only!!!) within a 20 minute driving distance. Danger for my wallet!
Sherry, I also have a white-ceramic-animal obsession. It’s really hard to resist since I am not too particular about the white bit. Good thing I have nowhere to place anymore ceramic pets, otherwise it would be a mini-zoo in here!
All the best with the birth!!

Haha. That cat statue reminded me of something creepy that I saw once at a “Christmas Store.” Yes, they have these here. I saw it from across the room. I was actually looking for a dog ornament, since my mother loves dogs. I saw a bunch of little ceramic dog heads, and was like “tacky, but it’s Christmas and I wonder if I can find my mom’s dog breeds.” Well, as I got closer, it was revealed to me that they were ornaments that consisted of a ceramic dog head, with a puff lace collar attached to what looked like little baby bodies (like a cherub with a dog head)? I was traumatized. AND, the cherub-body was like mushy and rubbery. G-ross. Why can’t a dog just be a dog? I’m sure it was sacreligious somehow. It had to be.

Although I’d already done my weekly jaunt through the 2 close HomeGoods, this post had me wanting more. And more I got. I’d been looking everywhere for a leather chair for my office and picked one up last night for $199 @ HG! At least $100 less than all the places I’d found online – and no shipping fees. Thanks for the extra motivation.
And by the way I’m *dying* over here for insight into your home office project, and can hardly wait for Tuesdays post. We just bought a new house, found so much inspiration from your mood boards, and have begun to purchase a couple of items. Well, as soon as I read that you’re doing the conversion I’ve stopped in my tracks (except for the leather chair – can’t go wrong).

Sherry,
I almost fell out of my chair while reading this post. Within the past two weeks, I have purchased 3 of the items on your list: the coral-looking picture frame, the glasses with woven sleeves, and a large white Sheffield Home mirror (almost identical to the one you spotted). It was as if you were reading my home decor-obsessed mind! I’m absolutely addicted to Home Goods. Thanks for making me feel as if I’m FINALLY getting the hang of furnishing my first home :)

I love almost everything you posted here, especially the mirror and pillows. Hope they have these same things at my Home Goods!

Just went to the new Home Goods when Mom and Sis came to visit the 804. WOW! Could blow a lot of cash in there. And since I’m re-doing my den (hopefully pics to you!), I need a good place for accessories. Thanks!

I bought the white urn a few months ago and love it. I have it in the middle of my round dining room table. For some reason it was on sale, so it was around $20. Score!
I love all of the other things (ok, maybe not the cat with the kitten in the basket) that you showed. I’m glad to know that if you were with me shopping, we would gravitate toward similar items. :) Thanks!!

homegoods, god i love homegoods. i have to say, tho, that a place with more random goods does not exist. as much as i find great stuff at great prices, every SINGLE time i am there, i audibly emit a “what the hell” or “what on earth” or “why?” this last time it was when i saw 2 gigantic giraffes, at least 7 and 6 feet tall. why. just why. i will never forget when i walked in and saw a giant menorah, about 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. i really applaud their support of chanukah, as i am jewish, i really do. but i know NO ONE who would buy such a thing.

I love HomeGoods. Love it. I’ve been shopping there about seven years. Alas, I live in Alaska now and there isn’t a HG’s up here. This post makes me want to jump on a plane… Lovely finds. Those blue towels with the white vines… Love.

After reading your Home Goods post and getting a sudden and serious craving for spending hours there, I decided to venture. Unfortunately the Home Good stores in Phoenix are all spread out and the closest one was 20 miles away, too far for an after work trip. So after scanning my brain, I decided to try the Marshall’s that is just down the street from me, hoping that maybe they had a Home section. And to my surprise and delight, they did! I found 2 white ceramic canisters with similar cut outs to the giant urn you guys found!

I love homegoods!!!! and I enjoy these postings because not only does it show good design for less, but provides inspiration and new places to look. sometimes you are looking for that certain something and this keeps all the places you could find it fresh in your mind!
I saw almost the exact same vase (the first white one) at big lots and I also recently scored big at Burlington coat factory. I hardly ever go there but after seeing a similar post to this one on another blog, but about burlington, i headed out. I bought two large wicker-esque outdoor lanterns, in the style of Crate and Barrel. but for much less!!! and I also talked the manager into giving me one for 50% off because the handle was broken, but i just plan on removing it and no one will know the wiser!!!

Hey S & J:
I just have to know where I can find a decently priced coffee table like the one in your living room (I love the PB one, but $400 is too rich for my blood!) I have tried coffeetablesgalore, zgallerie, home goods, etc with no luck!
Any guidance would be appreciated :)
Hope you 2 are having a great Saturday!

We actually found ours at a thrift store for $30! So garage sales and secondhand shops are always a great place to look- along with Craigslist or even freecycle. Target, Ikea and JC Penney also have sone great options.

I share everyone’s love for HomeGoods, as well as just the good ol’ fashioned T.J.Maxx & Marshalls! As much as you’ve provided so much inspiration to DIY, I don’t quite have the experience/skills to pursue this yet and I’m not having much luck with great finds at the thrift stores of northern Illinois either. So I hunt for the majority of my decor at T.J.Maxx and Marshalls ‘cuz of the amazingly low prices and ‘brand newness’!…Sounding like a commercial-sorry…but can ya tell how obsessed I am with those stores! = )

HELP!
I need – like NEED – the mirror in this post. I have a Home Goods in my city, but they do not have it (I’ve been there twice since this post came up). They do have the larger, rectangular mirror of the same type by the same manufacturer (Sheffield Home), but I need the round one for my on-the-way daughter’s nursery.
I have 2 questions:
1. Does Home Goods have access to the inventory of all of their stores? So if I go into my HG, would they be able to tell me if another store has this mirror or would they be able to get their hands on one for me?!
2. Does anyone know of anywhere online where I would be able to find this mirror or one like it??
I’m desperate! HELP!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Jessica,
It sounds like the best way to hunt one down would be to call your local Home Goods and ask them those questions. They might be able to order one from another store if you provide a credit card number for them to “hold it” with. Hope it helps! And happy hunting…
