A few months ago HomeGoods came a lot closer to home. Hence the celebratory “holla” in the title of this post. Yeah, I’m psyched. The closest location used to be in Short Pump (about twenty five minutes from our house) but a new one recently opened right in Chesterfield Towne Center (a mall that’s about eight minutes from our door). Score. So we thought it would be fun to run around with our camera and take some photos of whatever caught our eye (just like we occasionally do at Target, Ikea, and even the other HomeGoods location). Let’s go virtual shopping, shall we?
This cheerful turquoise bench ($150) caught my attention right away. Apparently Mr. Pony likes it too. Only in HomeGoods can you take a photo like this. Seriously, a giant iron horse checking out a garden bench? Check.
These little grellow ottomans ($80) were cute and functional thanks to the pop off tops. They’d look so good in an all neutral room in lieu of a coffee table to shake things up and add some color.
The ones that got away were these white bowls ($3 for the small salad/cereal ones and $8 for the bigger ones). I’m in love with the faceted gemstone-like shape. Should’ve gotten those. Darn.
The aisle marker that said “Library Decor” had us laughing. You know, since everyone needs faux books and a magnifying glass for their library.
I liked this sweet mauve velvet and linen-esque pillow ($35):
This gorgeous stripey velvet guy had me drooling too ($30):
I almost took this guy home with me ($24), but I kind of have a pillow problem so I vowed to give them a rest for a while. Sniffle.
But I did take this $22 planter home with me. There’s not much in the way of scale when it comes to this pic, but it’s a huuuuge metallic bronzy-brown planter with tons o’ texture thanks to the wavy sculptural shapes around the side. I’m smitten. Photos to come when I find a final resting place for him (I figure he can house magazines or even rolls of wrapping paper in a gift wrapping corner- or a plant, duh).
Then we had some fun with a giant watering can:
Here’s my favorite little shopping partner. Her “Eggy” (a yellow egg from Easter) kept her happy the whole time that John and I snapped away. Smooches to Grandma (aka: Nonna) for introducing Clara and Eggy. They’re a shopping match made in heaven.
Along with my metallic planter we also got two $19 Ralph Lauren pillows for our bedroom (our pillows were all flat and easily over 5 years old- time for new ones):
John didn’t have a little yellow egg to keep him company, but he did have a little too much fun in the pet aisle. Check out his wearable cat carrier and “I heart my cat” mug. The best things about the cat carrier was that the box’s tagline was: “no pet left behind.” For some reason that had me snort laughing. Update: I’ve since been enlightened that these carriers are for saving animals in emergencies, and now completely understand and endorse their function – we have not one but two doggie-carrier bags for Burger – safety first!).
This cheerful yellow lantern ($17) had me at hello. Up on a mantel, the top of a console, or an armoire it could definitely add some happy to any room.
John and I both fell hard for this industrial meets rustuc Hooker table. But even though it was marked down to $299 from $699, it was still too rich for our blood. But it’s gorgeous and so inspiring. Maybe someday we’ll master the whole welding thing and DIY something. Oh to dream…
This mirrored table ($70) was really similar to this $199 one from West Elm. So glam… and so hard to photograph.
This $49 lamp kind of reminded us of the metallic round-based ones that we have on our console table (from Marshall’s). We’re just suckers for clean white drum shades up top and some textured metal sheen down below:
This $29 botanical canvas was kind of fun and oversized. It could be great in a bathroom where you’d worry about prints or photographs getting all clammy and wrinkled.
This giant capiz mirror ($129) would be one of those room-making things when hung over a fireplace or above an entryway console table. Anything capiz = my jam. Seriously, I’d drool over a capiz bust of Screech from Saved By The Bell. Make it capiz and I’m in.
This $129 chair was cool. I could picture it pulled up to a desk instead of a stuffy office chair for a totally inviting little bill-paying and laptop-trolling zone.
This cool Moroccan-inspired black pouf was $80, and I could definitely see it in any sort of living space to add texture and a splash of the exotic. It might even look cool in a nursery. I know that seems weird, but it would add plush sophistication without posing any sort of hazard since it’s squishy and baby friendly. I can picture it pulled up to a charming clean-lined glider with a floofy white flokati rug. Mmm.
So there you have it, a quick little virtual shopping spree through HomeGoods. Have you guys seen anything there that you’re loving lately? Have you snagged new bed pillows or a jumbo planter that you plan to use indoors? Do you read faux books in your library with a posh magnifying glass? Come on, somebody tell me they do.
Psst- We weren’t paid or perked for this post, we just like HomeGoods. Like a lot.

OMG sooooo jealous! I’m 500+ miles away from my nearest HomeGoods. All of your finds are fabulous!
Cara says
What’s your take on stores that advertise in areas where there is no actual location for hundreds of miles? I’m in Oklahoma and the closest store is in Texas! I guess they want us to shop online but I think it’s kind of cruel for them to tease me like that! I’m planning a roadtrip to Dallas next month for the sole purpose of shopping at Homegoods and Ikea!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh man, I didn’t know anyone did that. What a tease!

hmmm, that is very sad, I live in Switzerland and have 3 Ikeas in max 40 Min. I guess that makes me a happy girl :-)
Melissa says
I have a pillow problem too – and I’m not sure I could have walked away without that yellow one!
Mollie says
I have that lamp on my desk! Love it!
Hunter says
The HG in my area (Cleveland) is awful. It’s poorly lit, dirty (as in dead bugs on the floor), and musty smelling. The staff is just horrid, and the shelves are usually empty. All that is totally odd, as both TJ Maxx and Marshalls are fine.
But you’re making me want to go back and double check to see if they straightened out their act. Maybe I’ll check it out next time I’m near there again.
Jen says
I also LOVE anything capi – Wait a sec, DO they make a Screech capiz bust?! How can that be bad? Saved by the Bell AND capiz!
Lauren says
::SIGH:: Of course you guys put up a Home Goods post like three days after my husband added the store to the list of “places Lauren is forbidden to visit”(along with Borders and every shoe department that exists now or will ever exist in the future.)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha- hilarious! I think John might add it to my forbidden list in the near future soon too!

Hi guys!!!!
I LOVE your blog. It has been a Godsend since I purchased my first home in March. I absolutely NEEEEED those grellow ottomans. I have been on the search for that exact pair. I called to location you found them in and they are gone. :( Do you by any chance remember who made them? I really don’t want to pay double the price somewhere else. Thanks so much!!! Keep up the good work.
YoungHouseLove says
So sorry- we don’t remember. Maybe just check other TJ Maxx and Marshall’s and Home Goods stores for them? They all seem to overlap what they carry sometimes. Happy hunting!

I am sooo jealous!!! the closet HomeGoods around here? Yeah, that’d be in Portland OR. So about, oh, yeah, 3 hours away or so.
HomeGoods deprived, I have to thank you for posts like this one. Always nice to get cool images at least for inspiration :)
Michelle K. says
We haven’t had Home Goods store for very long in Northern California but your stores seem to have SO many more goodies than ours.
Courtney says
I am obsessed with Homegoods. There is one about 3 miles from my place and I go there about once a week, mostly to just “window” shop but occasionally make a purchase. I have bought MANY art pieces there, a table runner, storage boxes and baskets, candles, lamps… you name it they have it! LOVE that place!
Lonely Wife Project says
You’re so right about that pouf! Perfection in a nursery!
Sam says
We don’t have a Homegoods here in Northern Cali… I’m jealous!! I had to comment about my shock that you didn’t point out the white ceramic reindeer in the library section!! Surely you noticed those.. Haha
Erin @ AroundTheFarmhouseTable says
I need to get that cat carrier and mug for my mom! She is turning into the crazy cat lady. Maybe she’ll get the hint!
Claire @ Claire K Creations says
I am so jealous of you guys. You can’t get anything like that for anywhere near those fantastic prices in Australia. I would go nuts in that stores!
Erin @ Out on A Limb... says
HomeGoods is my church, my temple, my Mecca. It’s a dangerous place for me to window shop (I have a thing for the napkin/tablecloth and the dish aisle), so thanks for browsing for me. So much easier on my basement storage and my pocketbook; )
S.Rhodes says
product placement
YoungHouseLove says
Nope – check out the disclaimer at the bottom of the post. We don’t do sponsored posts or product placement here (and anyone who does is legally required to express that within the post), but we do go “virtual shopping” at places like Ikea and Target and even thrift stores and local shops. You can check out our no-swag policy here and all of our other “window shopping” posts here.

Love home goods. That Home Goods is about 5 mins from me! I was there the first week! Bought a “Keep Calm and Carry On” wall art. Wanted so much more. I am holding out for the clearance section though. All the stuff was new therefore no clearance yet. But soon!
carolinaheartstrings says
Home Goods is my go to fav for all kinds of stuff too! I just gone one closer to me in NC too. Now instead of 25 miles away, it is less than 10.
Rina says
Reading your blog from Australia makes me so jealous! We don’t have anything like the homeware stores you have over there and everything seems so cheap! I feel like hiring myself a shipping container and heading over for a massive shopping spree!!
Kel says
I feel your pain Rina. And even if we were to find similar items here, they would easily be four times the price.
Meri says
One of my friends sent me this link because she knows how much I love Home Goods, and she could totally envision me doing what this blogger did on a recent HG trip.

Sadly, my closest HomeGoods is 2+ hours away (along with Ikea)! I have a large planter in my living room that I use for dog toy storage. Both of my dogs are large, so they can easily reach in for their toys (sorry Burger, short legs might make it too difficult!). It’s been a sanity-saver for me because I can eliminate pet-toy-clutter in just a few minutes. Now if only I could train my dogs to clean up after themselves…
Ashley @ DesignBuildLove.co says
I LOVE window shopping! You guys had some amazing finds! And yes Sherry… Capiz has totally stolen my heart too! I even have a capiz frame or two in our house!
Recently, I found a bunch of household items on a windown shopping trip to my local Ikea and Ross! LOVE THEM! http://designbuildlove.co/?p=730
Allison says
How lucky are you to have a man that even entertains the idea of going into Homegoods… Mine knows that he won’t get out of there in a 5 hour window and without a few hundred spent and therefore shuts me down at the mention of that store.
YoungHouseLove says
I think John was just happy I wouldn’t have to beg him to drive all the way across town to go. Haha. Although I think it could be dangerous now that it’s so easily accessible…

Call me cray-cray, but I quite enjoy these window shopping posts. Even the thrift store ones!
Christy B. says
Funny thing is, I just went to Home Goods and Marshall’s these past two days and bought new pillows for our bed too! I also snagged a new stuff-less toy for my pooch, new kitchen towels, books for my baby’s first b-day gift, and a new shower rack!
Karin K says
I am in major need of some lamps, and I was seriously eyeballing the one in your post, but I can’t shake the notion that there’s a giant tarantula trapped inside. I need to go check out my HomeGoods to see if there are any tarantula lamps to see up close. Because they have a giant magnifying glass if I need it.
Beth W. says
Karin,
I thought the same thing! Definitely looks like a huge spider inside. Eek! Otherwise, really pretty though.
Laci Waner says
Someone may have already shared this link, but these are an easy no-welding way to get the metal table look without the price-tag. You guys already know how to make wood look worn and “re-claimed” (or maybe this would be a good way to use the wood John already salvaged?)

I love virtual shopping with you and seeing all your finds. Now I just want to go shopping real bad. Too bad I can’t think of a equivalent store here is Australia.
LOVE the turquoise bench – might just have to paint something like this myself for spring..

oh, I love Home Goods! they finally opened one about 30 mins from us, that’s as close as they got but I’m happy. I also laugh at those “faux” library books..what’s the point?
Jessica J says
Is Homegoods the same as TJ Maxx? You guys are only an hour away from us here in Norfolk so I’m curious why we don’t have a Homegoods (unless it’s TJ Maxx in different skin).
YoungHouseLove says
Yeah, they’re owned by the same company (and Marshall’s too) but HomeGoods seems to have more houseware stuff. Hope it helps!

Seriously? It’s finally open???? Why did I not know this? Aaaaack!!!! Need that sunny yellow lantern, and the ikat chair nownownownow!! I’m kookoo for Home Goods.
Liz says
Wow, didn’t know they opened a new Home Goods over at Chesterfield Town Center. I’m so happy! I’m a Short Pump girl….I work directly across the street from the other Home Goods, and live about 10 minutes away. It’s awful, way too much temptation and little self control. I try, and succeed half the time. I love all that you photographed. I have a lamp fetish and they do provide. But I’m so glad to know that if I don’t find the perfect thing at my location, I’ll just drive over the bridge and will probably be satisfied. Thank you from a fellow Richmonder!

Americans have no excuse not to have beautiful houses, we could never get this kind of stuff for those prices here in Melbourne…………so unfair…… Also the average price of a house here is 600,000……. Green card anyone….Imagine immigration asking why I want to live in the States and I say for Homegoods of course……
Shannon Hoving says
I’m sitting here sulking because there’s no Home Goods store near me. Jealous, much? Yes. Yes, I am! (But after seeing all the great stuff they have, maybe it’s better for my budget that there isn’t one nearby.)

Rina, Kel………..and other Aussie’s lets get a shipping container guys and split it….

Glad to know that we aren’t the only ones that like to go look…or at least we did before we moved to the land of no chain stores. I miss HomeGoods; thanks for the nostalgia! (And I agree, the yellow lantern rocks!)

I have to share this! I went shopping for some new decor for my new home we are fixing up a la DIY and when I saw these white ceramic gem stoned faceted, as you call it, bowls, I had to have them. They actually made me think of you when I saw them (hope that doesn’t weird you out!). It is so funny that you saw those bowls in Home Goods and shared! I actually bought a larger bowl type thingy I am going to put in my kitchen just for lookin at and then two bowl looking votive holders all with that same gemstone look. The funny thing is that I live in Venezuela and got them here at my go-to home decor store called Tijerazo! Too funny!

Your Home Goods has way better stuff in it than ours out here in Portland, OR… It is very sad how little I’ve found to buy there recently. :(
Keri says
I never thought I would say this, but there is a very similar wood and metal end table at Anthro for $50 cheaper. $250 is still more than I can spend on an end table, but that’s beside the point.

I don’t use a magnifying glass, I prefer a monocle. Obviously.
And who wouldn’t want a capiz bust of Screetch? There’s a nice spot on my mantle that has been waiting for it….

Hello, YHL!
I know you heart the HomeGoods, so I’ve been meaning to share this story with you:
During my last trip to the local HG, I discovered the EXACT mirror I had been searching for…chunky black frame with a delightful hobnail border. It looked big, but I flagged down a random woman and asked to borrow a tape measure (of course she had one in her purse!) just to be sure. Miracle of miracles, it was 3’x4′ just like I wanted! The most miraculous thing about this baby was the price–$49.99. Are you kidding me?! I had to have it. I carried my purchase up to the counter, proud as punch, and checked out. Did I need help loading my treasure into the car, they wondered. Nah. I got this.
Fast forward 97.3 seconds.
Broken mirror all up in my trunk. :( Complete and total devastation.
Could it be that the HG had another of these absolutely-perfect-came-here-looking-for-something-completely-different-and-stumbled-upon-this mirrors? Alas, it was not to be. BUT. The manager felt so sorry for me that she actually damaged out the broken mirror in her inventory and gave me in-store credit for the total price so I could buy a different mirror. For real. How insanely sweet is that???
Two thumbs WAY up for the HomeGoods. You’re good people!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh man- that’s so sad! But so sweet of them to take care of you like that. Yay HG.

Of all of the things I could comment about on this post, believe it or not, Clara and the yellow egg absolutely take the cake. How fun and quirky is that sweet little lady? I just love that. What a character she already is :)
A side note: I, too have a deep and undying affection for capiz. You are not alone in your little capiz love-fest. Please continue to keep these shopping posts coming! They are almost as much fun as actually going shopping myself! :)
Mama Bub says
That chair is exactly what I need for our office. If only I could count on finding that at my own Home Goods.

My daughter, Moira, wore that same carter’s dress today that Clara was wearing in your shopping trip. I picked it up at Macy’s for a couple bucks last week. I’ve seen a few other things on Clara that I’ve purchased for Moira. Moira is 1 1/2, so they aren’t far apart in age or taste in clothing;-) Love watching Clara grow, she seems like a ton of fun!
YoungHouseLove says
So cute! They’re dress twins.

We just moved and thankfully have a HG much closer to us. Went with hubby last week and fell in love with a turquoise garden gnome. He didn’t come home with us because he was a big boy and needed to be nestled in a garden of proportionate size. That is something we do not have. Oh well, he will have to reside on the shelf next to the turquoise buddha for a little while longer.

You just have such great stores in the states, so jealous :)
Things are just so hard to find here in oz sometimes!! love reading your blog :)
