A few months ago HomeGoods came a lot closer to home. Hence the celebratory “holla” in the title of this post. Yeah, I’m psyched. The closest location used to be in Short Pump (about twenty five minutes from our house) but a new one recently opened right in Chesterfield Towne Center (a mall that’s about eight minutes from our door). Score. So we thought it would be fun to run around with our camera and take some photos of whatever caught our eye (just like we occasionally do at Target, Ikea, and even the other HomeGoods location). Let’s go virtual shopping, shall we?
This cheerful turquoise bench ($150) caught my attention right away. Apparently Mr. Pony likes it too. Only in HomeGoods can you take a photo like this. Seriously, a giant iron horse checking out a garden bench? Check.
These little grellow ottomans ($80) were cute and functional thanks to the pop off tops. They’d look so good in an all neutral room in lieu of a coffee table to shake things up and add some color.
The ones that got away were these white bowls ($3 for the small salad/cereal ones and $8 for the bigger ones). I’m in love with the faceted gemstone-like shape. Should’ve gotten those. Darn.
The aisle marker that said “Library Decor” had us laughing. You know, since everyone needs faux books and a magnifying glass for their library.
I liked this sweet mauve velvet and linen-esque pillow ($35):
This gorgeous stripey velvet guy had me drooling too ($30):
I almost took this guy home with me ($24), but I kind of have a pillow problem so I vowed to give them a rest for a while. Sniffle.
But I did take this $22 planter home with me. There’s not much in the way of scale when it comes to this pic, but it’s a huuuuge metallic bronzy-brown planter with tons o’ texture thanks to the wavy sculptural shapes around the side. I’m smitten. Photos to come when I find a final resting place for him (I figure he can house magazines or even rolls of wrapping paper in a gift wrapping corner- or a plant, duh).
Then we had some fun with a giant watering can:
Here’s my favorite little shopping partner. Her “Eggy” (a yellow egg from Easter) kept her happy the whole time that John and I snapped away. Smooches to Grandma (aka: Nonna) for introducing Clara and Eggy. They’re a shopping match made in heaven.
Along with my metallic planter we also got two $19 Ralph Lauren pillows for our bedroom (our pillows were all flat and easily over 5 years old- time for new ones):
John didn’t have a little yellow egg to keep him company, but he did have a little too much fun in the pet aisle. Check out his wearable cat carrier and “I heart my cat” mug. The best things about the cat carrier was that the box’s tagline was: “no pet left behind.” For some reason that had me snort laughing. Update: I’ve since been enlightened that these carriers are for saving animals in emergencies, and now completely understand and endorse their function – we have not one but two doggie-carrier bags for Burger – safety first!).
This cheerful yellow lantern ($17) had me at hello. Up on a mantel, the top of a console, or an armoire it could definitely add some happy to any room.
John and I both fell hard for this industrial meets rustuc Hooker table. But even though it was marked down to $299 from $699, it was still too rich for our blood. But it’s gorgeous and so inspiring. Maybe someday we’ll master the whole welding thing and DIY something. Oh to dream…
This mirrored table ($70) was really similar to this $199 one from West Elm. So glam… and so hard to photograph.
This $49 lamp kind of reminded us of the metallic round-based ones that we have on our console table (from Marshall’s). We’re just suckers for clean white drum shades up top and some textured metal sheen down below:
This $29 botanical canvas was kind of fun and oversized. It could be great in a bathroom where you’d worry about prints or photographs getting all clammy and wrinkled.
This giant capiz mirror ($129) would be one of those room-making things when hung over a fireplace or above an entryway console table. Anything capiz = my jam. Seriously, I’d drool over a capiz bust of Screech from Saved By The Bell. Make it capiz and I’m in.
This $129 chair was cool. I could picture it pulled up to a desk instead of a stuffy office chair for a totally inviting little bill-paying and laptop-trolling zone.
This cool Moroccan-inspired black pouf was $80, and I could definitely see it in any sort of living space to add texture and a splash of the exotic. It might even look cool in a nursery. I know that seems weird, but it would add plush sophistication without posing any sort of hazard since it’s squishy and baby friendly. I can picture it pulled up to a charming clean-lined glider with a floofy white flokati rug. Mmm.
So there you have it, a quick little virtual shopping spree through HomeGoods. Have you guys seen anything there that you’re loving lately? Have you snagged new bed pillows or a jumbo planter that you plan to use indoors? Do you read faux books in your library with a posh magnifying glass? Come on, somebody tell me they do.
Psst- We weren’t paid or perked for this post, we just like HomeGoods. Like a lot.

I JUST discovered home goods 2 days ago! My 6 year old is away and I am redoing her room while she is away as a surprise and happened upon it. OMGosh. I am in looooove. And, the whole time I was in there, I kept thinking about how you guys would love this store! Ha!
Nicole says
I love the faux book and magnifying glass the best. Who the heck buys a fake book…unless it was one of those cool books that you see on the movies where the inside is hollowed out, and you can hide stuff in it. i’ve always secretly wanted one of those.
Heather Flint says
OMG, I’m usually a bad influence when it comes to shopping…but I’m thinking you need to go back and pick up that yellow zebra pillow before it’s too late and the regret sets in. LOL!!! I LOVE it! :)
aaroohii says
Is there a reason why u choose $19 pillows when there r pillows available for $5?
YoungHouseLove says
We compared them all and they felt like these had the right fullness and density (they also had feather fill, which we prefer to poly batting). We figure if we’ll spend 7-ish hours a night on them for the next 5 years it was worth a little splurge, and they were originally $39 each, so we’re happy we didn’t pay close to full price!

Oh man…Totally unrelated, but I just finished the first coat of paint in our office. AND used the cutting in technique. WOW. Love it. Thanks soooo much for continued enthusiasm about it, and the video/tutorial, which finally got me on the cutting in boat. LOVE IT!

The no pet left behind carrier which made you snort laugh…just to be a bit serious for a moment: Remember when the levies broke and New Orleans flooded? People that were getting rescued were NOT allowed to take their pets. I can kinda see why if you are being airlifted on a helicopter or transfered in a boat you couldn’t exactly easily carry your pet in your hands or even in a pet carrier. But in this harness, sure why not. Could you imagine leaving Burger behind? This happened to so many people. When we lived in Thailand, we had a situation were we had to evacuate our building due to a fire. Our cat was terrified and it took a bit to get her out from under the bed. I didn’t have time to get her carrier so I stuffed her in a pillow case. She howled the whole way down all those flights of stairs. It was very difficult to get down the stairs not being hands free with a cat scratching like mad to get out of that pillow case. So imagine you needed to get Burger out of the house in an emergency and you have to get Clara too…hhmmm all of a sudden that hands free pet carrier is looking pretty good! Um..how much was it?
YoungHouseLove says
This is true! Great point! We actually have not one but two dog carrying bags – we use them when we fly with Burger (he actually came on our honeymoon with us).

Sooo jealous! Missing having things like HomeGoods nearby. We just moved a few months back, from Chesterfield to Germany (big move). I wish I had found your blog before we left, as our daughter is 13 months old, and I’m into/ studied interior design. Really have enjoyed reading your blog, and it’s inspiring me to start my own. I think my favorite thing is the rustic-industrial side table– that’s the look we are going for- but like you- too pricey of a price tag.

HomeGoods is one of my favorite go to place! I have to say I enjoyed the shopping trip….makes me want to go out today after work. :)

I live in Washington and WE DONT HAVE HOME GOODS HERE. I’ve written the company, but alas they haven’t open one yet. (Sadness…) We are going on vacation in Oregon to a resort town, and what am I excited about (stopping at HomeGoods on the way!) What a fun post – thanks for sharing.

That cat picture is hilarious!
These pictures make me want to go shopping….

You DIDN’T get the white ceramic deer? Are you feeling OK? Do we need to call a doctor? ;->

Haha- I’m actually getting very choosy about my ceramic animals these days. Or our house would be packed with them and there would be no walking space. Haha.

I LOVE my HomeGoods! It’s only a few miles from our apartment and they always have interesting stuff.
We’re in the middle of purchasing our first home so I’m sure after we get settled in and make some right off the bat remodels (adding insulation and sheetrock in the attic and basement – yay for more than doubling our square footage!) I’ll be making my way over there and to Joann’s with my coupons!

I’m planning to tackle some wall decoration soon and am completely enamored with this print: http://society6.com/product/PAVO-REAL_Print?tag=illustration
Looooooooooove the style and especially those colors.
Will most definitely order one, once I’ve figured out where and how I’ll get it on the wall (probably on a rack for easy interchangeability)
chrissa says
I need those deers in the library aisle! Your blog originally had me at “white ceramic animals” and my HG doesn’t have them. No fairs!

Just saw this (http://urbout.co/nt5I3F) and thought it might be a nice alternative to the welded table at Home Goods!

Those poofs seriously crack me up… why? Because we used to live in Morocco. And they’re way over-priced here in the U.S. We have four leather poofs with fancy designs on top (two medium, two large) that cost about $100 all together. The poofs usually run anywhere from $15-35 and last forever. We’ve had ours for four years and they look practically brand new, even though our small dog seems to think that they belong to her and likes to sit on top of them. The price difference alone keeps me from being tempted to get cute ones at HomeGoods.
YoungHouseLove says
Woah- four for $100? That’s seriously amazing. Might be worth a trip to Morocco…
xo,
s
E.Lefebvre says
I think it’s well worth the trip! (But I’m biased). In all seriousness, it’s a beautiful and hospitable country, and has amazing home decorations. The “Moroccan” decoration fad would be easy to duplicate inexpensively. We were limited by packing space, but have blue and white pottery lamps ($40 each), four poofs ($100), numerous carved wooden animals, boxes and games, a fossil-rock chess board and, pottery, etc. My favorite thing is that they use beautiful woods and bright colors.

Sounds amazing! What an awesome experience!

#1 ewwwww! Screech from Saved by the Bell is/was a porn star. ewww…
#2 I L-O-V-E that yellow/zebra pillow but I have nowhere to put it
#3 We have a HomeGoods literally 10 minutes from my house (7-8 w/no traffic). I would go grocery shopping and my husband would call me to find out where I was. Umm…”HomeGoods”. He would then point out that I left the house over an hour and a half earlier. Sigh… I had to stop going there b/c we need to save money for our new house
Lindsey @ A Pear to Remember says
Oooh, some seriously INCREDIBLE finds. I usually can’t get myself out of the kitchen section at Home Goods, but your post is making me want to take a trip! 2 Home Goods right near us in Burke, but a HUUUUUGE one just opened in Rehoboth. You. Must. Go.
Can’t believe that mirrored side table, SERIOUSLY identical to the designer ones. I got a laptop table at World Market recently (rubbed bronze with a glass top) utterly equivalent to all the ones at West Elm and half the cost. They also have those tables in so many finishes at World Market, and really affordable.
Our entire bedroom set is from WM (now that I’m on a kick here) and we’ve been very, very happy with their furniture. The mango wood is a little soft (I would not do a dining table), but for our dressers I bought beautiful cloth placemenats to act as “runners” on each dresser and protect the surface.
I would have definately come home with that planter, yellow lantern, lamp, and Clara (kidding!).
Thank you for such a fantastic blog, J & S!
Jennifer says
Hi, love your site. The “no cat left behind” cat carrier is designed for evacuees and was inspired by the tragedies of Katrina where pet owners were forced to abandon their pets or not be rescued.

Thanks for the tip (two others have enlightened us as well). Now we completely understand the necessity for those (we have two dog carrier bags for Burger)!

I’m literally running, not walking, to HomeGoods today to see if I can grab a couple of those yellow lanterns (or something similar) for my dining room table! That’s the exact pop of neon color that I need for my Summer tablescape! Thanks you guys!!! ;)

I was just looking at that white bowl yesterday, so pretty! I always find at least 20 things I could walk away with at Home Goods if I had the money or the space for them. And they always have the prettiest lamps, but I have too many table lamps as it is. I have a bunch of pics on my phone from my trip their yesterday too. I did recently find a great earring holder similar to one I wanted at Urban Outfitters but for less than half the price.

Got me a Home Goods mere minutes away from our newish home and I cannot begin to tell you the bargains I have snagged in there over the last 2 years. There is a running joke about me never coming out of there without SOMETHING. Rugs, dining chairs, garden stools, throw pillows, bedding, prints, candles, cookware, vases, and on and on the list goes. I do very well @ Home Goods!

I found you guys a replacement for the “hooker” table! Urban Outfitters has a VERY similar table for $169. (Sorry about the huge link!)

I admit to having FAUX BOOKS! LOL! We buy lots of boardgames to have on hand when friends come over but don’t have a lot of hidden storage, so we took the games out of their original boxes and put them in the “books”. We then put them among our real books on our shelves and they just sort of blend in. We did seek out the super neutral looking ones, so they are not as bad, I guess. It makes us feel a little 007 to go get apples to apples.

Me & my hubby were just at HomeGoods yesterday. We also have that Library section {in NY} and my hubby was playing around with the magnifying glasses. LOL! We bought 3 baskets to hide some speakers. Was so happy to finally find the right size. I could have bought more, but with hubby around I couldn’t get my shopping groove on the right way. LOL! He asks too many questions. ;)

Awesome! Doesn’t HomeGoods have the best chairs? One recently opened in my town (yah!) and over the weekend we went there and bought a dog bed for the newest member of the family. He seems to prefer the floor, however.

Are any of these products made in America?

I’m sure some are. Hooker furniture is an American company (based right here in VA), and I bet some of the other manufacturers could be googled to find out where they’re based.

That Hooker table is amazing. World Market has a similar/slightly more affordable line right now: http://www.worldmarket.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=aiden&origkw=aiden&sr=1, though the ‘rustic’ element is a big better in the Hooker version. <3

Oh, Home Goods, how I love thee! My favorite past Home Goods purchases have all been for our bedroom. All without breaking the bank!
