Dude, my last trip to Ikea made me weak in the knees (especially since they rolled out a bunch of new stuff) so I took a bunch of photos for ya. Not for compensation or anything – these sprees are just for fun. So here’s a little virtual store tour for ya. Let’s get down to bid-ness.
Check out this gorgeous chair. I want him. Bad. This guy is the Storsele and it’s $119. The black lacquer-ish finish had me at hello.
There were also these beauties: Hogsten ($89.99) & Storsele in yellow ($119.99). Doesn’t that sound like a fancy store that sells… ties? Or cigars? Welcome to Hogsten & Storsele. It has a nice ring to it, right? And on a different subject, I totally want two yellow Storseles in my sunroom. I need me some Storsele, stat!
Then there are these guys. The name? Vittsjo (the small one is $40 and the big is $70). There have been some pretty awesome blogosphere makeovers with these guys (sprayed gold, white, teal, etc). Love that.
We also gave this little Stockholm Sofa Table ($199) a few looks. It’s charmingly mid-century-modern-ish. Nice legs ya got there girl.
They also had these new colored Malm dressers, which were $49.99 for the small one and $79.99 for the large one. I thought the teal color was nice and muddy (not too neon, sort of moody and smokey).
There were also these Slatthult stickers for $9.99, which could probably look pretty sweet in the right application (I’m picturing them in girl’s room with light light light pink walls and a bunch of white furniture and bedding) so it’s a pretty little pop of flower power in an otherwise understated space.
We tried to link to as many things as we could find on ikea.com in this post, so if you don’t see a link/price it’s just because we couldn’t find it (but if you love something I would just go to ikea.com or the store to see if you can find more info). No idea what this table’s name is but I thought he was charming. The price was good too, although I don’t remember it. I know, I’m useless. Haha.
Oh yeah and I liked this little pantry. Probably because I have a pantry obsession (someday I WILL have one!). It was just a small room they added shelving to (the Broder series) and made it all organized and pantry like. Cuteness.
Then we stopped to watch the cabinet drawers open and close a million times like a big kitchen robot (it’s a little durability demonstration). Clara was mesmerized.
Speaking of Clara, I thought this cute kid bedding was sweet. I could totally picture the woodland duvet on the left working in a rustic space with a faux sheepskin rug and some raw wood floors and beams. And the modern green duvet on the right would be sweet in a room with dark charcoal walls and sleek white furniture.
When it came to adult bedding, this Malin Blad duvet ($19.99) was cute. It was sort of inky, like someone sketched it with a ball point pen.
I grabbed two of these $7 pillow covers (Malin Figur) – couldn’t resist them. I could totally build an entire big girl room for Clara around them. Completely smitten.
This map pillow was cute too (Benzy Land, $12.99). Might look dapper in a navy den with lots of wood furniture and a brick fireplace. Kinda cozy meets pirate. Is that a decor style?
Of course I stopped to gaze up at all the fun fabrics (here’s their fabric page). These two were my favorites. The one on the left felt like a very very abstract ikat with the same soft colors as the pillow covers I got. Pretty. And the one on the right was sort of a modern floral illustration. So cool.
I’m also forever in love with these curtains. I’m pretty sure I take a picture of them every time we go.
John and I aren’t the only ones who check out curtains, here’s Clara completely immersing herself in curtain hunting. She was hilarious.
This kids light was also pretty funny (Ikea PS) since you could fill it with anything. So from matchbox cars to finger puppets or whatever else your kid is into, it’s kinda fun. Heck, it would be sweet full of colorful spools of thread in a craft room or playroom too.
This $10 poster was cute too (Bild, cosmos 4). Might have jumped in our cart since it looked so cute with my pillow covers. Yes, apparently I’m already well on the way to completing Clara’s big girl room (meanwhile the playroom is completely full of secret book stuff and unfinished projects that we have to deal with first). Oh well, at least I’m ready when that day comes…
This new little potting/storage bench was pretty cute too (Applaro, $126.96). The colorful blue planters on the top shelf = my kinda pots.
We also checked the As-Is section for deals and saw this guy sitting there waiting for someone to take him home. It looked new and was 33% off (and already assembled, which can be a huge plus if you have a big enough car to cart him home like that).
And so ends our Ikea adventure. Anyone else been there poking around lately? Were you as smitten with Hogsten and Storsele? Did you indulge in a delectable ice cream cone on the way out?
Notice we (and by we I mean Clara) had a little outfit change since we were heading to see the family? Probably should have done that after the ice cream cone…
Psst- Once again for the people in the back, we weren’t paid or perked for this post, I just like taking you guys shopping with me. Check out all of our other Window Shopping sprees (both here in Richmond and on the road, in big box stores or small local shops).
Pssst- We’re over on Young House Life talking about Burger. Specifically, what he doesn’t like. Dude’s got opinions.

Off the Ikea topic but Sherry do you have any design ideas for a really narrow hallway? The only thing I can come up with is a collage wall. Our hallway that has the entrances to the bathroom and all 3 bedrooms is only the width of the doors. We hope to put the house on the market soon and don’t want to make it look so dark and small. Thanks!
YoungHouseLove says
Ooh yes collage wall or paint it a pretty color, get a new light fixture – you could even add wainscoting (something we’d love to do!)

Hi, I’ve been recommended your blog by a friend but I’m viewing it on my iPad and can’t read the writing, it’s camouflaged by the background. Just thought you might want to check out your formatting.
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks for the tip! It’s just an iPad glitch. If you clear your cache or data/cookies it should be all fixed. Wish we could do something on our end!

Ooh great post! Now you have me drooling over the Stockholm Table…

I visited the College Park Ikea this very day…it needed to be done since we just moved. Mr. Storsele was just sitting there in the “as-is” section, costing 60-something dollars because of just a few scratches {if only we needed a chair} and then I came home to read about him here. Thanks for all of your fun posts!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh my gosh- $60 is awesome!!!! I’m jealous I didn’t get to meet him in the as-is section. Haha.

Hey! Love your blog and your Ikea trip! Did you know they have a chair covered in your curtain fabric? I’m in Canada so I’m not sure if you’d have the same stock. But here’s a link! Hopefully it works :)

i ADORE spending hours at IKEA-shopping, eating, and shopping some more! And i think you go to the same one i go to, in Woodbridge? Anyhow, i am totally in love with that dinning table and the pantry-i swoon and my hubby has to drag me away every time we go.
And speaking of my hubby, he has a naval dad and loves pirates and travel stuff, so i HAD to buy the ship/map pillow the second i saw it on their website (there is also supposed to be a matching fabric that i thought would be awesome for his man cave, but i never found it).
But i can’t do this comment without also bringing up the new woodland creatures bedding in the kids’ corner. i just can’t get enough of it; and can’t wait to have a kid so i can buy it! I actually made puppydog eyes until my hubby bought me (er, our future kid) the $7 stuffed fox :)
Glad to see someone else is IKEA crazy too!!
YoungHouseLove says
Yes, Woodbridge is the best! And that’s hilarious about the stuffed fox. Adorable!

Speaking of window shopping, have you ever checked out all of the amazing free images from the NYC Public Library’s holdings? I’ve just spend hours perusing this great resource. http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/index.cfm

Hi There!
Need to comment this being from Sweden…
Love IKEA! I was at our local one yesterday. :) Got some new lamp cables to some flee market finds (needed to be rewired), a bedspread for my toddlers bed and some new lockers.
For your info: Storsele is a small small village in the north of Sweden with a grand total of 59 inhabitants as well as a really nice chair at IKEA :) and Högsten is a small island north of Stockholm (Capitol of Sweden). I really love the names they have at IKEA. My name (Pia) is not used yet :( Still waiting for that but my husband (Tobias) is a IKEA chair :)
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks so much for the backstory on Storsele. Must be so interesting to have that perspective on all the names they give us!

I love Ikea, I don’t understand y some people say they hate Ikea, because I really love Ikea. I was going to buy a ektorp tullsta chair with a cover in white and was wondering how yours has held up? I see that you have it in the kitchen and have had it for a long time now. Is the chair comfortable?
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, it’s comfy and has held up well- I think we’ve had it over four years!

This post inspired me to get to IKEA this weekend! Went with a friend and while I didn’t plan on buying anything as a young just-graduated-college-starting-a-new-job-have-nothing-for-my-apartment gal, some white dishes, a bird platter, and this Picasso inspired print: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90151042/ called my name. I almost the malin blad bedding too, cause I love it. Never fear, I’m sure I’ll be back!
With a full cart, we called our IKEA trip a wild success!

Wahoo! Sounds like a fun day!

I totally love IKEA – it’s brilliant therapy! I went there this weekend to mend my broken heart after losing out on our dream flat; unfortunately I had already mentally moved my family into the place, mentally redecorated (even picturing what xmas day would look like! fatal mistake) so the loss was devastating – EPIC emotional drain!
My brilliant mum suggested a restorative trip to IKEA and it did wonders for my soul. I think it’s all the ‘promise’ that it holds that i like so much – students buying furniture for their first home away from home, couples kitting out their first home together, and parents-to-be shopping for their new baby…so exciting!!
So, now armed with new NYTTJA photo frames, wooden hangers, a rug, two toy dogs for the girls, a coffee press, and the all-important meatballs, I think am emotially ready to start apartment hunting again!! BRING.IT.ON!
I wish I’d seen those lovely drawers in our As-Is section (always my first destination!) – they are EXACTLY what I am looking for. To put in my NEW perfect flat. When I find it.
YoungHouseLove says
Aw, I’m so sorry for your heartbreak Aimee! I love that Ikea is great therapy- haha. So sweet!

I have those red poppies-they were in my living room in the space before going up the stairs. :)
I LOVE that new white Hogstan chairs! And I I keep debating on those same curtains! That fabric pic on the right-it comes in pre-made curtains too… Love them-couldn’t make the blue in them work for me… the gray/black/white version of them are nice too!
And I was thinking the light you can add things would be fun in a casual eating area to add seasonal things too! What a great idea that light is!
Thanks for the fun shopping! We are been up there 3 times in the last 4 weeks getting things for our new/old house. It is 2 1/2 hours away-but always worth the trip-if even only for the chocolate cake! :)

i love your shopping trips! makes me a little crazy since we don’t have an ikea in hawaii and i want to go there and fill my house but i still love seeing all the amazing things they have for such great prices!!!

Loved the window shopping! Makes me wish even more that an Ikea would open here. Come on Ikea come to Kansas City!
Fran says
oooooh I love those pantry shelves! we have a pantry but it’s itty bitty, literally the space underneath our stays (think Harry Potter) and the shelving is placed so horribly in there hha

If your ears were ringing today… it may be because
I was talking about yas with the owners of Mod Cottage. Apparently the gurgle pots have been selling like hot cakes & at least 4 different women bought one of each color!

So timely! I was just thinking about going to Ikea today. I saw a few items in your photos that I would like to see in person. Your website provides me with so many great ideas. I used to dread the thought of putting together a “look” for my house. Now I look forward to it. Thanks Sherry and John!!!
Katie says
Love ALL those chairs! We recently bought a pair of Malm dressers in black to use as nightstands. Went for the white frosted glasstops they offer, fitted perfectly, and we couldn’t love them more.

i’m just saying, that light fixture isn’t just for kids:
http://i41.tinypic.com/xfungp.jpg
it also makes a pretty great dining room light. it’s had easter eggs, tinsel and candy canes, fake leaves, shredded paper, spaghetti noodles, christmas ornaments and old light bulbs in it. we love it!
Kara says
I was just at Ikea over the weekend with my new roomie, picking up a few things for the apt. How could I have missed Hogsten & Storsele?!?!?! If we didn’t already have 2 big armchairs in our living room, I’d be really tempted to go back and get a pair. I did pick up some of the pirate-y fabric that goes with the pillow you showed. I scored a bench for $5 off Craigslist and am planning to make a cushion with the ships. I may have to go back for a pair of pillows once I make the cushion :)

Not sure if anyone has commented on this yet but the name of the cabinet in the first photo is Besta. There is a lot of different sizes and door and leg styles which is maybe why its so hard to find it on the website.
After reading your post we made the two hour drive to the store determined to come home with that cabinet and I am happy to say we were successful. They got put together last night and look great.
Thanks for the inspiration!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks for the tip! Lots of folks were dying to know what that cabinet was!

I completely agree with your idea for the Slatthult stickers!
The funny part about it though is that I used the red large flower stickers in my dorm room at college, and then carried them on with me to my next apartment, then my amazing little house close to campus! They looked amazing with a wall of circle mirrors in my dorm, but even better in my house when I put a large, vintage-antique frame around them. I found the frame at a yard sale & was dying to do something with it! It is just a frame (no glass or anything), but it REALLY showcased the flowers & made it look so abstract since the flowers are so tall & it could only cover a portion.
Anyway, it made me smile to see you post them!
Darlene says
How funny!
I just saw this post, but was likely at that same idea the same day.
I totally bought that watercolor-y polka dot fabric to make kitchen curtains and I bought the grommeted curtain version of that graphic green/blue floral print to work as closet doors.
Funny that those are the two you picked.

Love those!

omg, I am definitely getting that map pillow next time I am there! My husband will love it (he adores maps).
I am really loving your blog and all the inspiration you give. Any tips for hanging art on plastered-over masonry? We have nothing above our fireplace and need something up there. I like your mirror thing, but I worry about leaning something up. Do you attach that in any way?
YoungHouseLove says
We use a drill meant for brick to get a screw in there for hanging. Hope it helps!

Hi Sherry,
Do you happen to remember the name of the cupboard in the first picture (behind the black Storsele)? It looks nice and narrow which is exactly what I’m looking for in our hallway!
Thanks :)

I have those awesome botanical berry curtains that you are so in love with! I have the green colorway downstairs and the blue colorway in our master bedroom. Being renters in a melting vanilla ice cream cone (I think I described it to you that way once) has it’s pitfalls (all vanilla) and perks- going crazy bold with curtains. A little more than we’d normally spend- but my husband was in love with them too! It adds so much to our house and the green ones provide so many shades of color to bounce off of without making everything “matchy.” When we make a trip there next for the nursery we’re planning, there will probably be some other crazy cool curtains we’ll go for. Love the window shopping posts!

Thanks Lauren!
