We’re doing our best to keep our word to those who have requested more window shopping posts, so we decided we’d keep the fun going by trying to hit up some awesome boutiques and shops when we’re traveling for our book tour in November. But lo and behold, before we have even left, we noticed that Target has some pretty awesome stuff out right now, so we thought we’d snoop around (and take you with us). For those who remember these things, we just stroll around a store and take photos of all of the things we love. Not for compensation or anything – these sprees are just for fun. So let’s all go skipping through Tar-jay together and see what’s new, shall we?
Numero uno were these super cool green glass vases. I loved the rustic look of them and the old embossed letters. And I thought with Christmas coming up in a few months, they’d be pretty gorgeous modern-meets-industrial accents for the holidays on a mantel or tabletop too.
Target went Jersey. Just like mah shiiiny gold bag (more on that here), they have embraced the gilded loveliness, with gold mirrors, vases, cups, and trays. I think they’re awesome – especially for Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years.
This frame made me laugh so I had to toss it in there. So true. It’s just begging for a photo of Burger in there.
This $24.99 pillow is one of those special end-cap collections (The Shops At Target) and I thought that the combo of wood grain and glitzy gold was pretty “Domino” looking to me. Picture them on a big charcoal gray sofa upholstered in velvet. Me-ow.
These $44 lamps continued the gold theme, and I love that they’re sculptural and 3-D looking. They’d definitely add some interest on a side table or console (and they could be spray painted any color if you’re looking for a pop of yellow or navy in a nursery for example…).
Lamp love. I wanted these babies. Once again with the holidays coming up I was totally tempted to buy these along with the pretty green glass vases I showed you guys first, but I don’t really have a spot for either of them (although I’m sure I could always make room…). Long story short, I took a picture so I could share them with you guys so someone else could take them home and enjoy them instead.
And then there was this sign with a very $herdog-esque ceramic dog. I mean is he meant to be mine, or what? Sadly he was sold out. Womp-womp. Maybe next time…
Here’s another one of those Shops At Target collections from an end cap. And we actually bought something from this collection on an earlier trip a few weeks back. Can you guess what it was?
Yup, John was all over the United States of America cutting board- so we snagged it. Although we’re not planning to use it as a cutting board. We’ll keep you posted when we actually get our little project banged out.
Here’s a $49 full/queen-sized duvet that I thought was cute. Kinda summery, but I bet it could even work all year round with a few white fur pillows and a big chocolate or charcoal throw at the foot of the bed.
How weird is it that a pot holder made my little list? But I thought this charming extra-chunky knitted pot holder was pretty darn cute. Might make a cute hostess gift with a yummy treat or a few other kitchen goodies.
Here’s yet another Shops By Target end cap sporting bedding by Patch NYC. I thought it was moody and graphic and fun. I especially liked the stripey sheet set on the bottom right.
Clearance alert. These $5 baskets were a good time. I can picture a bunch of them in a mud room or bathroom closet. Heck, they’d even be sweet in the pantry holding boxes of pasta or cans of soup.
Cute notebook, right? I think arrows like this could be the new chevron. What do ya think?
These rugs might have been the most exciting thing I saw. For $129 in pretty large sizes they were cool, and I thought the modern/aztec-ish designs were really neat. I know they might feel kinda weird to you, but I think in the right room they could be awesome. Sort of like this aztec-ish yellow Ikea rug that shows up in a bunch of gorgeous rooms.
They also had some great nubby neutrals (some all tan, some tan & brown & gray, and some all a deep charcoal, which seemed softer and tufted, sort of like those more expensive West Elm and Crate & Barrel versions).
Then I saw this and laughed for a good 60 seconds. Who wants to be a “vampiress” for Halloween? Any takers? All it’ll apparently take is this little character kit complete with a choker, some red glasses, and a tiny hat. Hilarious. Now I think someone should go as this character kit for Halloween. Just wear a giant piece of white cardboard with these things painted or glued onto it.
Method’s always the cutest soap, and the Orla Kiely designs are charming. I know it sounds weird, but this soap is so cute it could make for a cute gift or stocking stuffer for someone you love. Heck, I’d totally fight to end up with one at one of those at-work holiday gift exchanges.
These colorful shirts in the boys section (I’ve been known to snag things like this for Clara to pair with her favorite tulle skirt) had me smiling- even though the yellow one seems summery, I loved seeing them all together like this with their sleeves rolled up.
So that’s what I found on our latest whirlwind Target trip-a-roonie (yes, I just typed out the word trip-a-roonie… it’s official, I have become my dad). Have you guys been window-shopping lately? What caught your eye? Any favorites from the items we shared above?
Psst- Once again for the people in the back, we weren’t paid or perked for this post, I just like taking you guys shopping with me.

The “Aztec” patterns are actually knock off kilims… mostly Turkish patterns. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilim
(Hope this doesn’t sound snotty… not intended that way!)

Hey Sherry! Long-time reader, infrequent commenter–but I just had to tell you this. A few weeks ago I needed a new rug, so I was at Target thinking “what would YHL do?” I picked one that I thought would do you proud, and guess what? It’s the “aztec-ish” one on the far left in your picture! I’ve never been a prouder blog reader :) Looking forward to meeting you in DC!

Funny and very timely story… Grandma had yesterday off and took my four month old son and I to Tar-jay to get us out of the house, and I kept saying (about the ceramic dog, and a plaid boys shirt on a clearance rack next to a white lacy shirt) “That’s so yhl!” Which my mom thought was some new catchphrase a la “that’s so fetch”. Hilarious.

Love Target! Matter of fact, just picked up those duvet covers for a bedroom makeover! Slipped my old bedspread into a charcoal duvet, and used those yellow print duvet covers with it. Covered my old pillows in some new fabrics and I was good to go!

I’ve been eyeing that yellow $49 duvet cover, but since fall has hit figured it’d be too summery. Thanks for your tips on how to style it for cooler weather, think I’ll take the plunge!

Those green bottles are awesome — I will have to keep an eye out for similar ones at Goodwill. I can’t justify spending $17 bucks on that!
Fun post!

Just a quick tip…I was at Target today and the vast majority of the items you posted about were on clearance! Much of it for 30-50% off. I had been wanting that cutting board for awhile now (I wanted to make a little US table like Urban Outfitters: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=26293837&CAWELAID=1553100447 ) and I snatched one for $12.50. My store had a white dog for $10 and change. I picked a few other ‘Shops of Target’ clearance finds from throughout the store…stationary department, decor, kitchen area. Target is fun to begin with, but clearance Target is so much better!!

That’s awesome! So lucky!

Having not seen your post until today, I laughed when I read John bought the America cutting board and has big plans for it. I snagged one at my Target today – it literally had just been marked down 30% and was $17.50… score! I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it yet, but the little wheels in my head are spinning with cool crafty ideas. Great minds think alike!

Such a lucky sale score!

I love window shopping with you! If you ended up in Philly on your book tour I would have asked to crash a window shopping trip with you. I would have sent photos of my 5 month old and you would not have been able to resist. Then we would be BFF’s. True story.

Aw, you’re so sweet. Done.

Karen, I would have totally crashed your Philly crash. I would have had to use cat photos to woo John and Sherry, though. Your baby photos will trump my cat photos. Darn ;)

I totally love the pot holder. Every time we’re at Targe, I almost get it. But seriously, I can knit it, so I don’t buy it. Now I just have to find time to knit it…
I’ve been eying the wire baskets, too. Good to know they’re on clearance!

Oh goodness! I just came to your site today to catch up (I’ve missed out on reading the past few days…I know! *gasp*) I saw this and almost fell to the floor. I was just at Target this afternoon and almost EVERY item you posted about was on clearance. I picked up a few of those items. The red lamps were CALLING my name! They ended up being under $30 a pop. Swoon. Then I saw your site and realized I picked up the tall green glass vase, 2 of the gold lamps (they’ll look STUNNING in white), and a pair of red vases that you posted about. I apparently have been reading your blog too long because I think your taste is rubbing off on me! (I’m not complaining…)

Love the green glass vases! I also keep eyeing those Orla Kiely Method bottles, but I never do anything about it… I don’t know why I can’t pull the trigger on a darn $3 soap purchase….
My Tarjay had these great grey wool-ish herringbone storage totes with faux leather strappy handles.

I have that notebook! love it.. and i agree arrows is the new chevron. I just hope it doesnt end up overdone like chevron is getting to be (in my opinion). Fun post!

MAN!!! I was just at Target and I was thinking that you should be doing a post about how cool everything is seriously… I was so stoked!! If I would have had $dolla dolla bills yo – I would have laid it down!!! I especially love the seasonal decor aisles. I was so tempted this time around. …

I have that duvet and absolutely love it. It’s soft and light and Target has a lot of different patterns in the same colors to go with it.

I just bought one of those lamps on clearance last night! I hadn’t checked out the blog in a couple days, but its funny, cuz I was actually thinking of your window shopping posts while I was browsing this area! Very weird, lol. The lamp was on sale for $31 or so. I have a shade already for it, with turquoise, gold, grey and ivory.

I just bought the same America-shaped cutting board for a friend. She asked me to bring her something back to New Zealand that was kitcheny and would remind her of my trip to America. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours!

I had to pop in and tell you that I was in Target the other day and couldn’t get the yellow and white duvet set you pictured out of my mind, so went it found it. It’s EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for – an inspiration piece for my daughter’s “big girl” room. So, I bought it, and even better it was only $29.99 for the Full/Queen in Washington (weird there is such a price difference?!). I can’t wait to get her room all together now. Thank you for finding it for me! :)

So, I am hoping that your post for what happens to the America Cutting Board is published sometime soon, because I snagged one of those on clearance last week and need some inspiration. I was thinking clock, but I’m not sure anymore. We have traveled cross country 4 times, so maybe something with our travels… I need someone else to try first and let me know what works and what doesn’t :)
Also, why on earth did they put the stickers on the front, because I am having a hard time getting them off!
Have a safe trip to Cincy!
