Since we couldn’t cram all of your questions into last week’s video, we’re bringing you the follow-up where we’re tackling more funny and random personal questions that were submitted before last week’s big blogiversary extravaganza by our curious readers via Twitter and Facebook. We’re basically back to answer a few more of those quirky queries that had us laughing and cringing as the camera rolled (“what was your first thought when you first saw your house?”, “what chore don’t you trust the other person to do?”, “when do you guys get a chance to work out?”, “does Sherry wear her pajamas all day since she works from home?”). And this time I promise Sherry controls that potty mouth of hers a little bit better (see what we mean by watching Part 1). And enjoy Part 2 below or over here on YouTube.
Oh, and for those who can’t watch the video, here’s a quick recap of what we cover:
- I don’t trust Sherry to load the dishwasher (a total surprise to her) or mow the lawn, she’d rather I not do toilets and prune things. I think I can agree with that.
- We think we discovered our true “Petersik Style” a few months into blogging, once we refined our home’s color palette.
- Sherry’s interest in home decor definitely spurred mine, but I’ve always taken an interest in design and enjoyed flexing my creative muscles.
- Sherry’s looks can be attributed to a combo of DNA, make-up and lots of photoshop.
- We’re a one-car household and we drive a Nissan Maxima now, but dream of getting a used Honda Element (if I had my way) or a used Nissan Rogue (the ride Sherry and I actually agree on). And somehow I make Sherry think she’s pregnant in this answer.
- We use our living/dining room to entertain (and eat the occasional sloppy dinner that might ruin the couch in the den), but other than that, Burger’s the main occupant of that room (he likes to sit on the back of the couch and gaze out the window).
- Sherry likes to credit our punny writing style to her copywriting background, but I reveal that we really have our weird dads’ senses of humor to thank. Shout out to Tom and Ken.
- We usually read blogs or magazines, but when we crack open a book it’s either pink-covered chick lit (Sherry) or nerdish non-fiction (me and sometimes Sherry too).
- Sherry’s first impression of our house was “we have to have it” and mine was “that’s A LOT of yard work.”
- Even though she works from home, Sherry manages to change out of her pajamas 99% of the time – but still misses the old days in NYC when she got all gussied up for work and tottered around in 4″ heels (I had no idea she was 5’2″ for the longest time).
- We decided to get a chihuahua because I wanted a cat, but Sherry’s allergic. Hence our cat-sized dog, Burger – whose manageable size makes him a breeze to travel with.
- Sherry only runs when being chased (working out just isn’t her thing), but does go on long walks with Burger (in addition to banging out all of those sweat-inducing home improvement projects). I’m a runner and I go on my lunch breaks.
We know there are probably still questions out there, so feel free to hit us up with more. After all, we’re Talky McTalkersons when you get us going. We can’t promise they’ll all be addressed in another video, but you know we hate to leave any question unanswered…
Click here for Part 1 of our Q & A video series, where we tackle things like “when will you have kids for crying out loud?” and “when are you getting your own TV show?”

Woah, Sherry, you’re from Parsippany?! I’m from Boonton, and went to grade school in Parsippany (at St Peter’s off 46)! I even did some shows at Parsippany Playhouse growing up. Wow…Small world!

This question popped up in my head while I was watching the video….does the previous owner know how much you have renovated the house and that the house is such a celebrity?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Mandy,
Here’s a post all about that very subject: https://www.younghouselove.com/2009/08/our-young-houses-old-history/

another video….yesssss! too much fun :)
Arenda W. says
So do you ever get any (bad) hate mail? :p
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Arenda,
Good question! We’re generally pretty lucky in that department, especially because we’re sharing a lot of our life with the world (and some people on the internet tend to say things they would never say to anyone’s face). But we actually very very rarely receive anything other than sweet and enthusiastic comments, which we are forever grateful for! We just have that little disclaimer to remind everyone that we don’t like snarky here at YHL. Life’s too short to let one hater ruin it for the rest of us!

I LOVE my Element, in kiwi green! It is a great DIY automobile.
Sherry, I used to live in Sparta, NJ and fell in love with Homegoods in Parsippany!
KK says
Watching this makes me miss you guys! Can we merge our cities, please? We can call it Charmond or Richlotte?
YoungHouseLove says
I vote Richlotte. Hmm but Charmond does have a nice ring to it…
Miss you too KK!

I know I’m a little late, but my dad also drives a Nissan Quest that has over 200,000 miles and it is still going strong. He loves his van! He said he will never own anything but a Nissan.

you guys are adorable! love the videos!

I have really enjoyed your video series! You have such fun personalities and great chemistry together, which makes the videos so fun to watch. You would be such fun friends!

I was wondering since you guys have advertising backgrounds, if you ever watch Mad Men on AMC? It’s about advertising men that worked on Madison Avenue in New York during the ’60s. It’s a cool show to watch especially for the designs back then.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Mary,
But of course! And we looove the decor. Unfortunately agency life in NYC isn’t quite as wild and glamorous a few decades later. Which is such a shame because it looks like so much fun on Mad Men!

Loved the recap. My friend’s husband has a Nissan and has had it in the shop more than it has been out of the shop lately. I also wanted to say that actually, the Rogue *is* comparative to Chevy’s Equinox. I’m actually looking at both the Rogue and Equinox but who knows when I’ll actually get a new car.
YoungHouseLove says
Good to know Heather! We actually read some articles that pitted the Rogue against the Infinity crossover and the Honda CRV so we assumed those were the only comparable vehicles (at least according to Consumer Reports). And if it helps at all, the Rogue seemed to blow them both out of the water! Good luck with your decision!

Great video! Thanks for answering 2 of my questions (I feel so cool… HA). Love your blog!

Thanks so much for sharing! And here’s a bad joke for you guys:
How did the hermit pay for his home?
Alone.
Keep up the silliness– I think that’s one of the main reasons we all love you guys!

So I just watched one of your videos for the first time (I’m not at work – ha!) and I must say your voices are totally not what I imagined! Great video!
YoungHouseLove says
Now that’s funny Susie! Did you think John would have a deeper voice- or a strained high pitched one? Did you think I’d have a Brooklyn accent- or that I’d be a slow talking sweet southern girl with a drawl? Do tell!

I know this video isn’t new, but I just watched it and you two should definitely get a Rogue! My friend and I both recently bought one and they are awesome cars. (She loves hers too!) I had the same Murano dilemma, but the Rogue is perfect for projects and toting things around (I’m an ikea junkie and haven’t had any problems getting everything to fit in the back) You will love it!!

A friend sent me a link to your blog a month ago, and I don’t know how I hadn’t seen it before. I’ve been slowly working my way through all (yes, ALL) of your posts from the beginning and am close to being caught up!
I just had to comment on the wardrobe shift, though. I moved to Iowa from Chicago and had a very similar experience! In Chicago, I walked a mile to the train in my 4″ heels (which was my “workout”). Now, I work from home and have had to buy short jeans, multiple pairs of slippers and lots of new t-shirts and try to get out of my pj’s by noon. Oh, and I would take the dogs for a walk, but that won’t happen until the three feet of snow we have melts!
My husband and I are hard at work changing his bachelor pad into a home for newlyweds (we got married 9/5/09) and I’ve been taking lots of before and afters that I hope to share with you when we are “finished.” I’ll even squeeze in a few of our dogs: Philly, a 110 lb. Great Dane and Cooper, a 4 lb. Yorkie. It’s quite the sight to see. :)

Hello,
I have been a reader here for a few months and I decided to go back and read from the beginning and I just had to comment on this post. This line is so awesome “Sherry only runs when being chased (working out just isn’t her thing)” I tell people this all the time, that I will only be running if I am being chased or their is an emergency. Basically if you see me running, something is wrong! Anywho, I just wanted to stop by to let you know how glad I am to see that I am not the only one like this.
I am excited to see you in Cincinnati on Saturday. I hate going places alone, but my family and friends are busy Saturday so I am going to be brave and come out on my own to see you guys! I can’t wait!
YoungHouseLove says
Ahhhh – so excited to see you in Cincinnati!
